Pastor Nancy Christensen will lead our worship this Sunday in Pastor Karen's absence.

Pastor Nancy Christensen, currently retired, has served in congregations in the ELCA for many years, beginning in the SC Synod in 1984, and most recently in the greater Atlanta area. She was the Mission Developer of Epiphany Lutheran Church in Suwanee, Georgia, where she served for 12 years, then was an Assistant to the Bishop with Bishop Julian Gordy. She was co-pastor with her husband, Gary Christensen, from 2011-2013 at Cross and Crown Lutheran Church in Chamblee, Georgia. Her most recent call was as Senior Pastor at St. John's Lutheran Church in Atlanta. Pastor Nancy has four children and two grandchildren who keep her very busy!

GSLC COUNCIL and CALL COMMITTEE NEWS

SPECIAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING

We have unanimously recommended to the Council, and the Council has unanimously voted and agreed that Pastor Karen Boda be voted on by the congregation as the primary candidate for the permanent position of Pastor.

This Sunday, January 19th, we will have one worship service at 10 AM with a Special Congregational Meeting following that service to vote to call Candidate Pastor Karen.

Yesterday, members of the congregation should have received a Special Sheep Buzz email concerning this Special Meeting and the items that will be voted on during the meeting. If you are a member and did not receive this information, please let our office know at media@gslutheran.org and we will do our best to get it to you.

Please keep Pastor Karen, the church, council and the call committee in your prayers as the congregation casts their votes.

As many of you are aware, Pastor Karen and her husband are traveling for the next few weeks returning for worship services, on February 2nd. Please direct any pastoral care necessities through our Media Coordinator, Donna Garges at Media@gslutheran.org. She will direct any information to the appropriate people.

JUST AHEAD

THE LUTHERAN COALITION AND HABITAT BUILD

The Lutheran Coalition Website www.lutheranhabitat.org has been updated with the latest Habitat build information. Use the site for everything they need to know about the current build in Canton and signing up for it.

The Church office will be closed on Monday, January 20th for the MLK Holiday.

SOUTHEASTERN SYNOD MARTIN LUTHER KING ACTIVITIES

St. John's, under the leadership of Alcuin Johnson and Louise Hamilton, is excited to host the Southeastern Synod's Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Learning, Service, and Worship on January 18th! A lunch and learn opportunity, followed by service projects will kick off at 11 AM and then a celebratory worship service will follow at 2 PM. This time of community building, advocacy, and worship is vital as we strive to continue the vision and hard work toward unity and justice! All are welcome!

YOUTH AND FAMILY AND MOSTLY MUTTS

Good Shepherd Youth and Family has again partnered with Mostly Mutts Marketplace on Bells Ferry to offer our hands and feet for our four legged furry freinds. E-mail Cathy or sign up at Sign up Central on Sunday, if you are interested in this event which will take place from 10-2PM on Monday, January 20th, the MLK holiday. Plan to pack a lunch for the day.

We will be mainly sorting through donations and helping them process items for their storefront. There *may* be a a lovable mutt or two there to pet, but overall our goal will be working on sorting things and providing many hands in that process! This is a great way to serve our community, especially on the day to honor Martin Luther King Jr.

We would love to have as many youth as possible (and grown ups too!) to help.
