This Sunday, August 11, Rally Day, will be our "official" kick off of the fall programming activities. The day will include a special gathering in the Fellowship Hall in between services to learn about fall programming activities and meet the teachers/leaders. We will give thanks for the summer break and will celebrate our return to fall scheduling.
| |
|
On behalf of the whole congregation, we give thanks for the gifts Melina has brought to our congregation and especially her love of children and youth. We will miss her deeply and pray her next calling will be lifegiving for her.
LAST CHANCE! PLEASE PARTICIPATE!!
A fun and unique way to share a note with her is by way of a "Kudoboard." Instructions to leave a message on this online board can be found here. This is a very simple way to share a picture or a simple note of gratitude of our time together. Try it! It is fun and easy and Mel will most certainly love it!
Between services this Sunday, we will hold a reception for Melina to express our gratitude and love.
The Personnel Committee has begun the process of reviewing and filling this position. We look forward to working with many of you during the time of transition.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE HYMN OR PRAISE SONG?
Although we are no longer accepting requests, as summer continues, we will sing some of your favorite songs and hymns. We are grateful for the large number of responses we have received. Please note that we had more submissions than there are weeks of summer, so we may not be able to use all the songs that have been submitted
This week’s Favorite hymn or song, “In the Garden”, was selected by Ken Kidder “I remember it fondly from my youth in the Methodist church.”
Find some additional commentary on this song in this Sunday's worship bulletin.

GETTING READY FOR SUNDAY SCHOOL
Interested in being a part of the youth programs and helping drive their faith journey? Consider being a teacher for the 2024/25 Sunday School year! Duties would include: leading curriculum that is already printed and ready-to-go, being willing to answer questions (and being ok with not knowing all the answers!) and having a smiling face that the youth are excited to see each week. Even if you're just curious what this may entail, we are happy to send you more information. Questions? Email youthfamministry@gslutheran.org

"God's Work. Our Hands." Sunday
September 8, 2024
One Service at 10 AM - A quick grab and go lunch provided before heading out to serve.
We are planning some great events for "God's Work. Our Hands." Sunday, on September 8th. There will be events at Good Shepherd, but we are also planning events that will take us out into the community to serve. People can choose to go to:
OUTSIDE OF GOOD SHEPHERD
- The Oaks Assisted Living on Towne Lake Parkway to make cards with the residents
- Visit at members’ houses that cannot attend regularly and chat and sing hymns with them.
- Go to Hobgood Park to help clean up the park, paint the trash cans. We have a designated area under a pavilion. This is a great activity for families. Water will be provided. We will also paint rocks that can be put out to decorate the park.
-
Help out at Mostly Mutts to help move summer items out of the shopping area and move fall items in from 12-3PM. Space is limited to 15. (This Sign up is now full! YAY!)
AT GOOD SHEPHERD:
- stuff treat bags for our Trunk or Treat Event scheduled for Oct. 30th
- Prepare treat cards with a fruit snack for the preschool for their Halloween Parade
Please use the sign up sheets in Fellowship Hall so we can gauge the amount of people that will be participating in the GWOH activities. Those that participate are welcome to stay for a quick grab and go lunch.

There has been a change to our "Hefty Orange Bag Recycling Program". You will no longer need to use an orange bag at home; just use a white regular kitchen garbage bag for these hard to recycle items (look for numbers 4-7), and bring those bagged recyclables to church on the first Sunday of the month. The orange bags will be put over these white bags when we bring them to the recycling facility. This request is being made by the recycling facility. More information about the Hefty program can be found here. We will continue to collect a free will donation to offset the cost of the orange bags in Fellowship Hall.

BRING IN YOUR LADIES CLOTHING
Caring for Creation continues to support the Drake House, collecting SEASONAL, clean and like new donations. Look for the big orange drop-off bin in Fellowship Hall.
