The Eighth Sunday After Pentecost

8:30 AM | 10:45 AM

July 14, 2024

Worship Bulletins: 8:30 AM | 10:45 AM | Announcements

The 8:30 AM Worship Service will be livestreamed on our Facebook page at facebook.com/gslcwoodstock/videos. Following the service, visit our YouTube channel for our recorded services.

Randomly placed in the bulletins you might find a piece of artwork. These were created by the youth attending our VBS program. They wanted to share their love and appreciation for you, our church family and this was a small token they could easily share.

GSLC CALL COMMITTEE NEWS

The Call Committee continues its work on the search for a new pastor. A special Sheep Buzz was sent around noon today with an update from the Call Committee. You can read that update here.

If you have any questions, please ask us! We invite you into a conversation with as much information as we can give, understanding that some information must remain confidential. Look for our blue name tags or email us at callcommittee@gslutheran.org.

Ask a committee member to share one of these yellow prayer cards with you. It is our hope that you will take these home and keep GSLC in your prayers as this process continues.

HAPPENING NOW

YOUTH TRIPS ARE HAPPENING

Remember to keep our youth in your prayers this month. Our middle school youth have returned from a great service trip around the Atlanta metro area and the National Youth Gathering is this week, beginning on July 16th. Stay tuned to our social media pages for photos capturing these exciting trips. We again want to thank the congregation for all the support they have given our youth to have these wonderful and sometimes life changing opportunities.

GSLC PAINT PARTY

Our Hope is to Finish Up This Weekend!

If you have some spare time, please come by and check the punch list of items that are on the sign up board in the Entryway. We are almost to the finish line. We are so grateful for all the help and financial support to get the big project completed. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

If you were part of the help, please remember to pick up a T-shirt from Thrivent in the Meeting Room, multiple sizes are available.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE HYMN OR PRAISE SONG?

This summer we will sing some of your favorite songs and hymns.

This week’s Favorite hymn or song, “Awesome God”, was selected by Chuck Storla who comments, “Classic contemporary worship song that everyone can sing and the praise band can rock.”

Find some additional commentary on this song in this Sunday's worship bulletin.

THURSDAY BIBLE STUDY RESUMES

Thursday Bible study with Pastor Karen continues this Thursday, July 11th, at 10 AM. Please bring your Bibles, we are moving on from the book of Genesis and now into Exodus. This is a great time to join us as we begin a new study. All are welcome.

Handmade Card ministry at GSLC

ALL OCCASION cards are available, most for a suggested donation of $2.00 per card. All proceeds will support our Good Shepherd Youth Mission Trips. This ministry is being hosted by Molly Maher, Linda Rowell and Pam Hough. Thank you for your wonderful support of this GSLC ministry.

NEW CARDS are out this week. Look for our POCKET CARDS! Pocket cards have a card within a card. They also have space to insert money, checks, or gift cards. Look for them in the Fellowship Hall. Most of the cards for which we are receiving donations are “one of a kind” cards, making them special for anyone who receives one.

SUMMER HOURS

The church office has switched to "summer hours" through Monday, July 29. The office will have staff available "virtually" on Mondays and in-house staff Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

JUST AHEAD

"God's Work. Our Hands." Sunday

September 8, 2024

One Service at 10 AM - lunch provided before heading out to serve.

We are planning some great events for "God's Work. Our Hands." Sunday, on September 8th. There will be events at Good Shepherd, but we are also planning events that will take us out into the community to serve. People can choose to go to:

  • The Oaks Assisted Living on Towne Lake Parkway to make cards with the residents
  • Visit at members’ houses that cannot attend regularly and chat and sing hymns with them.
  • Go to Hobgood Park to help clean up the park, paint the trash cans and small landscaping projects. The young children can be under a pavilion with supervision at tables and paint rocks that can be put out to decorate the park.
  • Help out at Mostly Mutts to help move summer items out of the shopping area and move fall items in from 12-3PM. Space is limited to 15.

Sign up sheets for these events are posted in the Fellowship Hall at Sign-up Central.

We would love to have our members wear one of these "God's work. Our Hands." t-shirts. They will be customized with Good Shepherd on the back. Orders need to be complete by August 11th. Please fill out the simple order form for each person, using the button below and submit a check, (made out to GSLC with T-shirt in the memo line), in the offering plate or into the gold slot near the Bookkeeper's office in the Administration Hallway for the designated amount. (Shipping/Customization and taxes are included in the prices.) We are only taking orders online, so see a member of our staff if you need help completing the form.

Order your t-shirt

JULY 21ST after Coffee with Council in the Meeting Room. All current and new servants are asked to attend.

Attend the training that follows each service on JULY 28TH in the Meeting Room, pertaining to the service you are interested in assisting. All current and new servants are asked to attend.

Thank you for all the PEW to PULPIT submissions.

The Topics beginning July 28th are as follows:

July 28: What really happens after death?

August 4: How does the Bible teach us to love and welcome all?

August 11: Does God really hear my prayers?

August 18: Relationships and Forgiveness

August 25: Why? (theodicy)

Leading up to each week, we will link to the readings for the week. Pastor Karen is grateful for all the submissions and conversations that this has generated. We may have to visit this again as we had more topics than we had time allotted for this series. Please know that pastor is open to any discussions if your topic is not one that has been selected. We thank everyone that has participated to make this possible.

GETTING READY FOR SUNDAY SCHOOL

Interested in being a part of the youth programs and helping drive their faith journey? Consider being a teacher for the 2024/25 Sunday School year! Duties would include: leading curriculum that is already printed and ready-to-go, being willing to answer questions (and being ok with not knowing all the answers!) and having a smiling face that the youth are excited to see each week. Even if you're just curious what this may entail, Mel is happy to send you more information. Questions? Email Mel at youthfamministry@gslutheran.org

THEOLOGY ON TAP

We will meet at Hickory Flat Kitchen, Canton - July 24th, we apologize for the late cancellation this past week.

Topics change each time we meet so no need to worry about missing anything. As always, everyone is welcome to share some food, laughs, and open conversation in a safe, non-judgmental environment
