JUST AHEAD

OUTREACH COMMITTEE NOTES

GSLC has many wonderful things going on during the month of September! Although we usually have our monthly Outreach Committee meetings on the first Sunday of every month, we’re going to be busy working for our community on God’s Work/Our Hands Sunday, September 7th. Please note that the next Outreach Committee meeting will be held in the Meeting Room, accessed from the Entryway, on September 21st, at 9:30 AM (between services). We hope all members can join the meeting; we have a bit of business to attend to.

Also, we would like to thank everyone who stopped by our booth during the Ministry Fair. We met some new members during the Fair and hope everyone interested in joining the Outreach Committee’s next meeting will be able to attend. Come and see what’s planned for the coming months!

LUTHERAN COALITION TASTE OF HABITAT

The 21st Annual Taste of Habitat Fundraising Event returns on September 12 from 7 – 9 PM at St. David's Episcopal Church at 1015 Old Roswell Road, Roswell, GA. This is located between Holcomb Bridge Road and Mansell Road.

The goal this year is to raise $40,000 to build Habitat homes in Metro Atlanta. More than 60 fabulous chefs from the Lutheran Coalition for Habitat churches will be sharing the foods they love to make. It’s a fun “date night” (adults only) with outstanding food & drink, great fellowship and most enjoyable live music. There will also be a Silent Auction and trivia contest! See additional details on the Taste of Habitat. A wonderful African Photo Safari Trip is also being offered in conjunction with this evening.

Tickets are now available for $40. Would you consider being a chef or donating a silent auction item? See Max Epling or Mike Dooley for these details. We have loved all the previous creations of all our Good Shepherd Chef representatives. Join in on the fun with this group.

CAREGIVERS SUPPORT GROUP

Our next Caregivers Support Group in connection with the Alzheimer's Association is scheduled for Saturday, September 13, at 1 PM in the Meeting Room. Anyone in the community who is supporting and/or caring for a loved one experiencing dementia or other long-term debilitating issues is invited to attend and become a part of this group.

NEW BEGINNINGS

A message from the Personnel Committee:

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is in a season of gratitude and joyful transition within our music ministry. We announce with thankfulness that Chase Petersen’s last day will be September 14, 2025. Over the past 15 months, Chase has enriched our worship and community life with his musical talent and collaboration. We wish him all the best as he prepares for his program in Germany.

To honor Chase, we will gather for cake and celebration on his final Sunday, September 14, after the 8:30 a.m. service in Fellowship Hall. A basket will be available for cards and notes of gratitude.

We are also delighted to welcome our new Organist and Choir Director, Anna Kate Peed, starting September 16, 2025. Anna Kate was Assistant Director/Organist at Christ Church Episcopal in Dublin, GA and studied organ, piano and music education at Mercer University. We are so thankful to have Anna Kate joining the staff at GSLC.

Please join us in thanking Chase and welcoming Anna Kate. May this time of change be filled with gratitude, hope, and new beginnings.

GREETING CARD MINISTRY

ALL OCCASION handmade greeting cards are available, most for a suggested donation of $2.00 per card. All proceeds support our Good Shepherd Youth Mission Trips. This ministry is being hosted by Molly Maher, Linda Rowell, and Pam Hough. Thank you for your wonderful support of this GSLC ministry.

Special thanks go out to everyone who stopped by our Greeting Card Ministry booth on Sunday. We hope you enjoy the free note cards we handed out and had fun participating in the 2026 Calendar raffle. Six lucky winners have been notified already. Congregational support of this ministry is so appreciated by the makers, as well as the senders and receivers of these mostly one of a kind greeting cards.

Look in the bins for new hand painted cards, cards with tea bags included, and cards with bookmarks included. If you have new ideas for cards, please pass them on to Linda, Molly or Pam. We aim to please.

CARING FOR CREATION

We continue our many recycling initiatives. We appreciate all the help from congregation members to keep these items out of landfills.

We also recycle all types of METAL near our garage and ELECTRONICS during our Electronic Recycling Drives in April and November.

We need to remove labels from the prescription bottles and Hefty Energy recyclables. Try these methods:

  1. Warm the label in the sun
  2. Use a hairdryer for heat
  3. Put bottle in a glass of very hot water

PLASTIC BAGS and SMALL CARDBOARD BOXES can be recycled at our partner Mostly Mutts Market.  Their address is 5505 Bells Ferry Rd. Acworth 30102.
