This week we're presenting Studio Place Arts, Cahoon Museum of American Art and Hera Gallery.
The shows on display at these three institutions highlight the work of (mostly) women artists. There is no common thread between the exhibitions - the themes, mediums and structures of each show are completely different. However, they show the sheer variety and talent of women artists across New England.

Studio Place Arts presents, Hiding in Plain Sight by Amy Schachter, a show that highlights the work of Vermont-based artist Amy Schachter and her bright, vivid and abstract paintings and sculptures. While this show aims to reflect "complex relationships between the past and present," much of Schachter's art "explores the human experience as told through a female lens." The figures in her paintings and are assembled from bold shapes, giving them a fragile look yet powerful presence. The gallery is open Wednesday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Studio Place Arts is located at 201 N. Main Street, Barre, VT. Cahoon Museum of American Art presents Bold Women and Vivid Dreams Sarah Peters and Don Nakamura, which showcases the artwork of Sarah Peters and Don Nakamura, two ceramic artists who both hail from the same Philadelphia studio, The Clay Studio. While Nakamura's large-scale and colorful ceramic sculptures plumbs the depths of the human spirit, Peters' smaller ceramic works include teapots inspired by cultural feminine icons like the above Wondergrrrl Teapot. Though approaching the topic in different ways, both artists explore the human experience through the spirit and the body. Hera Gallery presents Curious Intervals: A Hera Members Exhibition. This show showcases the work of six Hera Gallery members: Maggy Allen, Catherine Armistead, Tory Reiff, Roberta Richman, Carrie Usmar, and Abigail Wamboldt. From the documentary photography of Usmar to the colorful sculpture of Reiff or the monochromatic two-dimensional work of Wamboldt, each woman has a unique style with which they approach their art. And as varied as their mediums, so too are the meanings and intentions behind each artists' work. From February 28 – March 31, Bromfield Gallery presents “I Chose These Things” by Cathy Osman, still life paintings inspired by the landscape of southern Vermont; and “What We Make for Ourselves to Lie In,” a group show of SMFA students inspired by Tracy Emin’s 1998 bed installation.
The opening reception is Friday, March 1, from 6-8 p.m.
