Yolo County Supervisor Jim Provenza of Davis announced the appointment of Sheila Allen as his new Deputy, effective February 1, 2022. Current deputy Richard Reed is retiring and will continue on a part-time basis for a period of time to help with the transition, working also on a portfolio of projects.
Sheila has served as executive director of the Yolo Healthy Aging Alliance for 11 years and staff for the Yolo County Commission on Aging & Adult Services for eight years. Additionally, she was a program director for the Yolo County Health Department for eight years (2005-2013), served as nursing faculty at Rush University and CSU-Sacramento (1985-2000), and was a home care nurse for 11 years. She served two terms as an elected trustee for Davis Joint Unified School District (2005-2014). She has a doctorate in Nursing with a focus on public health policy from UC San Francisco and a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with a focus on Community Health from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
“I am delighted to welcome Sheila to her new role and appreciate that Rich will be helping in the transition and on a part-time basis,” said Supervisor Jim Provenza. “Sheila’s background in public health, as an advocate for seniors, and experience as an elected official will help drive our progress in providing appropriate support for children, seniors, unhoused and others in need, ensuring the highest level of service to our constituents.”
Dr. Allen is an active community member currently serving as chair of the City of Davis Human Relations Commission, president of Explorit Science Center, and a member of the City of Davis Unitrans Advisory Committee. She has previously served on the Yolo County Health Council and was an original commissioner for Yolo First Five Commission, serving for 10 years. Dr. Allen has been recognized for her community work by both Congressman Garamendi and Senator Bill Dodd as a Woman of the Year.
