We are starting 2026 off with a bang!

As part of our building repairs and renovations, the Library has prioritized replacing the broken HVAC system that serves the second floor and mezzanine, which failed over the summer and disrupted library services, collections, and operating hours.

Construction on this piece of our project will begin this month with the preparatory work needed ahead of the installation of our new rooftop HVAC unit, colloquially known as

RTU-6, which stands for Roof Top Unit 6, but makes us think of a very cute droid and that's the kind of wholesome mascot we need right now. Especially because we have some major changes on the horizon.

What does this mean?

[Deep breath] It means that our mezzanine will be inaccessible for patrons and staff beginning January 20th and lasting the duration of this project.

What happens to Adult Fiction?

One of the lessons we learned from our disruptions last summer were that our patrons love browsing our fiction collection. In order to make that happen, we'll be moving a portion of our Adult Fiction collection to the first floor.

How is that going to work?

Um...imperfectly? We're starting to reorganize and move some of our collections on the first floor:

  • Speed Reads have been relocated to the black display table next to the Front Desk.
  • Museum Passes are now located on a green display unit next to the Holds Shelf.
  • Video Game tickets are now displayed on a standing kiosk across from the Front Desk. The procedure to check out remains the same.
  • Book Group books will once again be shelved with the Holds. You can find your Book Group titles on the Holds Shelf after the Z's.
  • DVDs will be moved out of the Cheever Room. We'll have a collection of DVDs available for browsing by the fireplace. The remainder of the collection will be in storage; patrons can still place holds on these items.
  • Audiobooks will be moved. A section will remain available for browsing on the first floor. The remainder of the collection will be in storage; patrons can still place holds on these items.
  • A portion of Adult Fiction will be moved downstairs. We'll be utilizing the shelving on the front wall of the first floor, half of the Cheever Room, and the shelving outside of the Children's Room where the audiobooks were located.
  • Not all of the Fiction will be making a move downstairs; we'll be putting these books in storage during construction. These titles will not be accessible to staff; no holds will be placed on these materials.
  • We have started moving some of these collections and will continue to do so over the course of this week. We are putting up new signage and directional information as best and as quickly as we can, but the first floor will look a bit different over the next few days.
  • Patrons are still able to put holds on items from any library in the Westchester Library System. If you're looking for a specific title that we do not have available, we are happy to help you place a hold from another library.

We thank you, as always, for your patience and your flexibility. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
