February 15, 2022

Dear friends,

As we make our way through a Maine winter of wildly fluctuating weather from record low temperatures a couple of weeks ago to potential record highs this week — we find ourselves thinking about shelter. Not only the homes which protect those of us lucky enough to have them from these extremes in weather, but also the shelter that we find in one another in these times of climate chaos. And as we continue to work on a rich array of programming for the weeks and months ahead, we love that you are co-creating that shelter space with us by your presence at and contributions to our offerings.

This week, we'll bring you an event with Debra Rienstra, whose explorations on the theme of refugia are bringing us new insight as we explore what it means to be a brave and rooted community in these times. We hope you'll join us for Refugia Faith: An Evening with Debra Rienstra tomorrow and then continue this exploration with us by engaging with a Refugia Lenten Retreat in March.

As we navigate these uncharted waters, we are grateful for a community of wise and thoughtful people with whom we can both create and share shelter, and we look forward to more conversations and connections in the weeks and months to come.

With best wishes,

The BTS Center Team

TOMORROW EVENING!

On Thursday, February 16, The BTS Center will welcome author Debra Rienstra for a conversation on her book, Refugia Faith: Seeking Hidden Shelters, Ordinary Wonders, and the Healing of the Earth. The evening will feature music from Pax Ressler, a talk-back with Rev. Allen Ewing-Merrill (Executive Director of The BTS Center), and a panel of young climate activists and thinkers.

Refugia Faith is informing the work of The BTS Center this spring, and we invite you to consider attending a follow-up, online Lenten retreat we will offer in March, co-facilitated by Rev. Doug Clark and Rev. Eileen Gebbie.
