Community Resource Exchange

Family Promise of Morris County recently partnered with the Interfaith Food Pantry, the Morris County Continuum of Care, and the Morris County Department of Human Services to host the 2nd Annual Community Resource Exchange. Local nonprofit agencies connected and shared information to collaborate on providing services to our most vulnerable community members, while also connecting with local government, health officers, and leaders from all 39 Morris County municipalities.

Among the speakers was our own Shelter graduate, Raquel, about whose experience with homelessness and shelter you can read below. We are excited to continue working with our peers and partners throughout Morris County to assist our neighbors in need.

Raquel's Journey

Raquel, a single mom of three children, has been on quite a journey that began when she and her family first experienced homelessness to graduating from our Shelter Program, and now living stably for several years. Prior to entering Shelter, Raquel held down 4 jobs at one time to make ends meet and moved 13 times in 8 years while caring for her children and keeping them safe.

Since graduating from our program, Raquel and her family have been securely housed for the past five years, and Raquel has been on a mission to make affective changes for others facing similar challenges. She serves on the Morris Continuum of Care Advisory Board, the Allocations Committee, Executive Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, and the Permanent Housing Committee.

Raquel has a heart for change and she will continue to share her lived experience of homelessness and ideas to improve systems that will create positive outcomes in our county.

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT

Calvary Baptist Church

Calvary Baptist Church, Morristown has been a big supporter of Family Promise for almost 20 years! The church serves as a Support Congregation in our Shelter Program, and congregants of Calvary Baptist have provided a large array of in-kind donations throughout the years in addition to in-person volunteering.

We appreciate so much the warmth, support, and partnership from Calvary Baptist Church and the compassion from the church members. The guests in our programs have been touched by the church's generosity and care.
