Choose your Furry Valentine!
Are you smitten by kittens? Do you find yourself in the throes of puppy love? You can shower shelter animals with love this Valentine’s season by participating in My Furry Valentine! This online campaign allows you to help support the care of homeless dogs and cats from the comfort of your home. This event runs from  Feb. 1 until midnight on Feb. 14 . Kitsap Humane Society Helps Pets in Need
Dozens of dogs and cats belonging to homeless and low-income pet guardians received free rabies immunizations, pet food, blankets, beds and toys from Kitsap Humane Society during the annual Project Connect fair in Bremerton Jan. 23.

Kitsap Humane Society is proud to participate in events like the Salvation Army’s Project Connect, which provides services to low-income animal lovers who may not be able to make it to the shelter in Silverdale.

Smart Ways to Give in 2018

  • Donate appreciated stock: With the stock market at or near all-time highs, give your appreciated stocks to a nonprofit like Kitsap Humane Society and eliminate capital gains tax.
  • Name us as a beneficiary of retirement plan assets: These assets remain taxable when distributed to a loved one but are tax-free when given to a nonprofit.
  • Give from your IRA (if age 70½ or older): Regardless of whether you itemize your taxes, this gift helps you fulfill your required minimum distribution and is not considered taxable income.
  • Gifts of real estate: Many real estate markets are enjoying gains. Appreciated real estate may be subject to capital gains tax unless donated to charity or transferred to a charitable trust.

Volunteer Spotlight
Kendra Bliss
Meet this month’s Volunteer – Kendra!
Kendra has volunteered at Kitsap Humane Society for 10 years, making her one of our longest-serving active volunteers! She contributes mostly as an Advanced Handler dog walker for our most stressed dogs, and her calm demeanor is a great help to them. Kendra has also volunteered at PetsWALK and helped with laundry and dishes.

“I love walking the dogs at the shelter because I feel I can enrich their lives, even if it is for a brief moment," Kendra said. "It is important that they get out of the kennel and have a nice walk and human contact. They enrich my life at the same time. I have adopted two senior dogs there since volunteering at the shelter and will do so again in the future.”

Be a Pawtastic Pal!!!
Pawtastic Pals help raise money for homeless shelter pets by holding fundraisers. One of the most popular ways is with a Facebook Fundraiser for birthdays, to honor loved ones, for dog and cat adoption anniversaries and other celebrations. These supporters have raised nearly $6,000 since September 2017 to help support our lifesaving work!

What motivates someone to raise money for Kitsap Humane Society? As Sarah P. writes, “Phinneus (left), adopted from KHS seven months ago, runs the household from his spot on the back of the couch! We can’t imagine life without him and he is the reason I’ve donated my birthday to KHS.” You can become a Pawtastic Pal and fundraise for shelter pets too!
