SHELTER TAILS
July 2018
Fun + Compassion + Exercise + Kids
+ Dogs + Community = PetsWALK!!!
Here at Kitsap Humane Society, we get lots of inquiries from parents whose children love animals and want to do something good to help pets in our community. PetsWALK does just that!

PetsWALK is a charity walk to support the care of animals in need at Kitsap Humane Society. Involving your kids in PetsWALK is a great way to teach them about compassion, empathy, philanthropy and community engagement.

Plus, PetsWALK is FUN, good exercise and supports a great cause! You don't need a pet to enjoy this special event. But if you DO have a pet who does well with other pets and people, he or she is welcome to join you at PetsWALK!

All proceeds from PetsWALK, sponsored by Poulsbo Animal Clinic, helps Kitsap Humane Society provide shelter, food and medical care for injured, stray, lost and abandoned animals. We have a lifesaving rate of 96 percent and also prevent pet homelessness with our low-cost spay/neuter and microchip/vaccine clinics serving thousands of pets and their families every year. Sign up now and start fundraising! It’s as easy as 1-2-3!

Step 1: Register for PetsWALK at https://petswalk.rallybound.org/ and ask family members and friends to donate. (Grandma & Grandpa LOVE donating to kids’ PetsWALK fundraising pages!)
Dog Foster Homes Needed - Next Training July 28
If you want to help shelter dogs from the comfort of your own home, consider fostering a dog from Kitsap Humane Society! Foster homes help us expand the capacity to help animals in need of care. So far this year, more than 50 dogs have benefited from foster care, but many more could benefit from being in a home environment.

We have various adult dog foster opportunities, ranging from overnight sleepovers, to short "shelter breaks,” and longer-term foster commitments that can last anywhere from a couple of weeks to a few months. We always work to accommodate foster parents who need to take a break from fostering due to vacations or other personal commitments.
Got Cool Stuff? We Can Auction it to Help Pets!
Do you own a restaurant? Are you a season ticket holder? Does your friend have a cabin by the river?

If you have access to gift cards, overnight stays in unique locations, or tickets to plays and shows, we want to hear from you!

We are collecting cool experiences and desirable gift cards and items for Animal Krackers as well as our Online Auction. We have BIG GOALS this year to raise even more to help continue this lifesaving work.

We can’t do it without your donations! If you have something to donate for Animal Krackers or our Online Auction, email Kim at kcizekallen@kitsap-humane.org
Old Cars Support Lifesaving Programs
Did you know your used car can save animals’ lives? It’s true!

Kitsap Humane Society accepts vehicles in any condition for donation. Running or not-running, we’ll take it off your hands! All vehicles are auctioned locally. We get the proceeds and you get a write-off come tax time. It’s a win-win!

Special thanks to Ted Sadtler and our friends at Mattress Ranch , for featuring our Car Donation program in their TV ads! Many donors have cited the ads as their inspiration for giving! See the video, right).

We also want to thank Stokes Auction and Chico Towing, who work with us to pick up and auction off donated vehicles.
Do you have a vehicle you would like to donate? Call Kassie at (360) 692-6977, ext. 1210 or e-mail kolmsted@kitsap-humane.org
Our Pet Licensing Month Prize Winners Are...
Thank you to all the pet guardians who licensed their pets in June!!! We implemented Pet Licensing Month in June to encourage people to license their pets before the 4th of July holiday, a time when many pets are brought to shelters. It's also important to note that licensing your pets helps support Kitsap Humane Society's animal control services and care for pets in need.

And the lucky winners are:
  • Joel Hansen, who licensed his dog Brinkley and won a $60 gift card to Bremerton Bar & Grill.
  • Roberta Thompson, who licensed her dog Belka and won the dog gift basket (pictured left with granddaughters Alexa and Brooklyn).
  • Kimberly Cummings, who licensed her cat Prince and won the cat gift basket (pictured right).

Thank you to our friends at Bremerton Bar & Grill and Z Bones for donating prizes, and to everyone who purchased a license in June!
Adorable Adoptable
Meet Ellie!
T his adorable girl absolutely loves people and is ready to be your new best friend!

She loves playing with toys, is a great jogging companion, is house trained and crate trained, and knows lots of commands!

Ellie is currently getting lots of love and attention in her foster home while she waits for her new family.
Volunteer Spotlight
Meet Cheryl!
This month’s spotlight is on KHS Foster Parent Extraordinaire, Cheryl!

Cheryl is invaluable as a foster parent for KHS - she not only takes care of cats and kittens in her home, but is a trusted mentor to other foster parents.

With her experience and knowledge, Cheryl helps foster parents feel supported, and this in turn helps KHS staff.

In the last few months, Cheryl has taken home multiple litters of kittens, from bottle babies to those ready for adoption. She also helps cats who need socialization and because she is a Veterinary Services volunteer, is capable of fostering cats in need of medical care. The love and care that she provides for all animals is exemplary!

In her free time, Cheryl is an accomplished seamstress, and sews blankies and
heat packs for the animals.
Yay, Cheryl!

Thanks so much for all much for all your hard work and love for the animals!
