Kitsap Humane Society Shelter Tails | August 2016
Petswalk a Success!

On July 16, 2016, close to 400 participants, 150 pets (we had a cat and parrot join us!) over 25 vendors and dozens of volunteers took over Downtown Poulsbo for Kitsap Humane Society’s Annual PetsWALK event! What an amazing day it was!

Together, we exceeded our goal to raise $25,000 and raised OVER $30,000 at this year’s PetsWALK event. SO AWESOME!

$12,500 was raised by Team and Individual fundraisers! This is a $7,000 increase from the 2015 total raised by participants! We GREATLY appreciate your support and the time and efforts you all dedicated to raising money for PetsWALK. We are so amazed by our wonderful supporters!

Thank you for helping us save more lives at Kitsap Humane Society!

Animal Krackers: Online Auction for the Animals and the 23rd Annual Gala and Auction

Last year, we were excited to kick off a new KHS event: the Online Auction for the Animals! This online auction allows KHS supporters who are unable to attend the Animal Krackers Gala to still be involved in raising money for KHS through online bidding. Last year's auction was a runaway success, raising over $17,000 and drawing the attention of over 250 online bidders from across the nation!

The 2nd Annual Online Auction for the Animals will be September 3-17! Don't miss out on your opportunity to shop, bid and win exciting items. You can save animals' lives from the comfort of your home...it is as easy as a "click!" Mark your calendar and visit www.biddingforgood.com/KHSauction/2016 on September 3 to bid!

Want to be a part of the Animal Krackers Experience?

Not only can you participate in the Online Auction, but you can attend the Animal Krackers Dinner and Gala, Kitsap Humane Society’s premier event. Tickets for the live auction and gala are now on sale. Join over 400 other KHS supporters at the Clearwater Casino on Saturday, October 1 to sip wine, enjoy Pacific Northwest cuisine and bid on exciting items at the 23rd Annual Animal Krackers Dinner and Gala. Thank you Bainbridge Community Foundation!

KHS' Low-Cost Spay/Neuter and Foster Care Programs – two complementary and vital shelter programs – recently received funding support from the Bainbridge Community Foundation Discretionary Grant Fund and in part from the Averill Park Fund and the Dubois Family Fund – Donor Advised Funds held at Bainbridge Community Foundation. This funding will allow KHS to ramp up program services and meet the demands of our local animal welfare community.

Year-to-date, our amazing veterinary staff has performed over 1,500 low-cost spay/neuter surgeries and our Foster Care Program has provided short-term love and TLC to more than 700 pets – thanks to YOU and our generous community partners!

Adorable Adoptable
Belle

Hello, my name is Belle (Intake #55080) and I’m so sweet you might just get a cavity! I’ve become a staff and volunteer favorite and you, too, will fall in love when you meet me. I enjoy playtime in the yard, working food puzzles and I LOVE car ride adventures. While I’ve been in foster care, I’ve also learned to love water and I’m happy to be on the boat with you or swimming after sticks. I seem to like having doggie friends. I get along great with my canine siblings in foster care. I’m housetrained and know some commands too. When I first arrived at the shelter I was almost hairless due to a skin infection, but with medication and lots of TLC I’m looking and feeling much better. I can be nervous and anxious about being left alone and meeting strangers so I will need a patient, dedicated adopter to help me continue to blossom. I’m currently in foster care, so if you’d like to meet me, please e-mail Meagan at mrichards@kitsap-humane.org. You can meet me and other adoptable animals at Kitsap Humane Society, open six days a week.

Volunteer Spotlight
Melanie Peterson

This month's Volunteer Spotlight highlights one of our fantastic interns, Melanie Peterson! Melanie has been working as our creative content intern since May 2016, helping to create marketing materials such as posters, flyers, spot illustrations, brochures, and T-shirt designs. Previously she volunteered at KHS with her mom.
“Working here as an intern really made me realize that I wanted to become a Graphic Designer. I learn tons of new things and new techniques while being able to use my illustration skills as well.” she said.
Armed with a love for Illustration and the skills to back it up, Melanie is currently pursuing a BFA in Visual Communications with a concentration on Graphic Design and Motion Design from Northwest College of Art and Design in Poulsbo. Check out her work here
