Walk or run to save animals’ lives with Kitsap Humane Society in Downtown Poulsbo on July 16!

PetsWALK registration is still open and we hope to see you, your family and your furry friends at this year’s event! Register by clicking here.

This year, our goal is to raise $25,000! There are many different ways you can help us reach our fundraising goal.

1) Register! All proceeds from PetsWALK, including registration fees, go directly to helping homeless animals in our community. Register your family today!

2) Fundraise! All event participants will have a fundraising page automatically created for them (you do not have to raise any money to participate). If you are not able to participate in this year’s event, you can still create a fundraising page and help KHS reach the $25,000 goal. Create your fundraiser today: http://tinyurl.com/hotjhjm.

3) Donate! Every donation helps, even $5. You can donate to the KHS Team fundraiser or browse through the other active fundraising pages! Donate here: https://www.raceplanner.com/donate/ZDVNZS14ZOJZFNG.

If you have any questions or experience difficulties registering, please contact Events Manger, Rebekah Johnson at [email protected].

PetsWALK Sponsors
Marvelous! Awesome! Incredible! Wonderful! Just a few words KHS uses to describe our event sponsors! Without these wonderful supporters, our special events would not be possible. Please stop by one of these businesses and make sure to thank them for supporting KHS!

FOSTER PARENTS NEEDED!

Are you looking for more ways to help animals in need? Become a foster parent!  Kitsap Humane Society's Foster Care Program is an essential part of our life-saving mission, and we need YOUR help to ensure the continued success and growth of this crucial program. Fostering is short term (as little as a few weeks!) and for kittens, all you need is a room or area to keep them separate from your own pets, like a bathroom, spare room or mud room. Summer is the perfect time to get involved because the need is high, and kids are home from school and able to lend a hand! KHS foster parents provide temporary loving homes for animals who are not yet ready for adoption, such as kittens too young for adoption, sick or injured animals, and animals whose current behavioral needs are better met outside of a shelter setting.  In 2015, over 900 animals spent time in KHS foster homes, and this year we are on track to save even more lives! In the summer months, KHS takes in a very high number of animals in need of foster homes, (particularly kittens and puppies) so as the temperature outside rises, the need for new foster parents also increases!  Foster homes also allow us to have more room available at the shelter for another animal in need.  Being a KHS foster parent is one of the most rewarding and fulfilling things you can do to help animals in need, because you are truly helping to save the life of your foster animal, and the bond you form with your foster animal is unlike any other! If you would like to find out more about becoming a foster parent, please check out: www.kitsap-humane.org/get-involved/foster-care/

5 Factors That Make Giving Feel Good

Many of us devote our time, talent and contributions because it's the right thing to do. We also gain a sense of satisfaction by sharing our generosity. Giving makes us feel good because it helps to:

Make a real difference. Sometimes "thank you" doesn't convey how much we truly care. Supporting an important cause that matters most in your life enables you to make a powerful impact on the lives of others.

Reflect our values. We all want to be part of a community that shares our values. Showing support, either through volunteering or including a gift to a charity in your will or trust, can extend your personal connection and give you a sense of belonging. It also reinforces your own belief system.

Be an inspiration. You may have had a favorite professor in college or a doctor who cared for you during a serious illness. We are often inspired to give back by a person who has touched our lives. A tribute gift is one way to honor that individual. At the same time, your generosity may inspire others to follow your lead.

Create an everlasting impact. You may find it important to leave your mark on the world. Planning a future gift helps ensure that the generation that follows will benefit from your contribution and that the programs you love continue beyond your lifetime.

Help others. You may have volunteered your time for a local organization because it provides assistance in your community. Using your will or beneficiary designations to make a gift to a charitable organization can help fulfill your desire to serve those in need.

Community Spotlight
Historic Downtown Poulsbo
PetsWALK requires a small army of volunteers, Poulsbo City Police Officers, Kitsap County Sheriffs, closed roads and the support of an entire community to make sure the event is possible. Without the support of the downtown Poulsbo merchants, KHS would be unable to have this event Downtown Poulsbo (which is an EXCELLENT location to hold PetsWALK). We are very thankful for the support and involvement of the Historic Downtown Poulsbo Association and the businesses downtown Poulsbo.  After you walk/run in PetsWALK, make sure to visit the many wonderful businesses Downtown Poulsbo!
Adorable Adoptable
Louie

Hello, my name is Louie (Intake #55234) and I’m an incredibly handsome senior fella who has the most beautiful white and smoke coloring. At 11 years young, I still have lots of life and love to give to whoever is lucky enough to scoop me up! I was surrendered to the shelter after my owners developed an allergy and could no longer keep me. I have a history of possible early kidney disease and my bloodwork shows mild elevations in kidney enzymes. But I’m eating and drinking normally and I appear to be in otherwise good health. I’m declawed so I need to be an indoor-only cat. But I seem to be perfectly content staying inside and spending my days napping on a comfy bed or watching the birds from a sunny window. Are you looking for a kitty like me? You can meet me and other adoptable animals at Kitsap Humane Society, open six days a week. www.kitsap-humane.org

Volunteer Spotlight
Karen and Kitsap Mobile Grooming

This months Volunteer Spotlight is on Karen Wagoner. Karen has been volunteering with KHS since 2014, offering her grooming services to our shelter dogs with her business Kitsap Mobile Grooming. Karen and her team of groomers visit KHS at least once a month and groom shelter dogs who arrive at our shelter dirty, matted, and in need of some TLC. She also grooms dogs who have been in our shelter for a while without much adoption interest. We always say a trip to Karen's mobile salon is the magic touch for getting a dog adopted who has otherwise been overlooked! Kitsap Mobile Grooming serves Seabeck, Belfair, Silverdale, Poulsbo, Bremerton, and Port Orchard and provides full-service grooming to both dogs and cats. Thank you, Karen, for the compassion and care you show our shelter dogs!
