Kids and parents filled the playground and excitement was high as each class prepared for Shelyn Elementary's annual Lunar New Year Parade. Children gasped as the sound of giant drums filled the air and then Chinese Lions began to dance! Little bunny masks and ears were worn in celebration of the "Year of the Rabbit," and each grade level performed a song and dance.
"This is always such a special event for our community. In 2009 parents approached me with an idea of a Shelyn community parade and we've kept the tradition ever since. All of our families look forward to coming together to celebrate, " said Shelyn Principal Sarah Opatkiewicz.
