Dear Shepherds Friends,

January is Mentor Appreciation Month!

On behalf of Shepherds’ students and the staff and Board of Shepherds, we recognize and celebrate our Shepherds Mentors this month. You have generously volunteered your time to help change a life.

From much experience, we observe that our students don’t always recognize or overtly express their appreciation of your efforts. But we also observe that by the time graduation rolls around or maybe even a few years later, the lightbulb goes off and they say, “Hey, you know what? If it wasn’t for [fill-in your name], I wouldn’t be where I am today.” So, my message is, “hang in there!"

MENTOR APPRECIATION

Come celebrate and share your successes and experiences with each other at our Mentor Appreciation Month Cocktails & Conversation Party on Thursday, January 26th at The Fairfield County Hunt Club in Westport, CT, 6:00pm.

Over 40 other current and graduated mentors have signed up. Meet partner school principals and senior administrators and Shepherds Board members.

Spouses/partners are all invited. And please consider inviting friends, family members, or colleagues whom you think might like to hear about the rewarding experience of being a Shepherds mentor.

We’ve started building our pool of prospective mentors for the incoming Freshmen - Class of 2027!

For more information on becoming a mentor, go to: Become a Shepherds Mentor. Or call Shepherds at (203) 367-4273.

FIRST SEMESTER HONOR ROLL LIST

Congratulations to the following Shepherds students who have excelled in their academics and have made the First Semester Honor Roll!

SHEPHERDS STUDENTS VISIT LOCAL REHAB CENTER

On December 14th 2022, Shepherds students from Notre Dame visited a local rehabilitation center to spread some holiday cheer. It was important to the students that they give back to the local community with their company, gifts, and talents.

Students visited with the elderly and engaged in great conversations. The residents' faces lit up with joy' as the students walked the hallways visiting rooms and giving gifts. When asked about his experience, one student remarked "...it makes me feel grateful to talk to the residents because they have so much experience in the world and they enjoy getting to teach us these things."

This outreach truly benefited both the students and the residents alike, and the students look forward to future opportunities to give back to the community.

NATIONAL SECURITY & CYBERSECURITY WORKSHOP

In December, University of New Haven graduate student, ROTC cadet, and student-athlete Charlotte Vick visited the Notre Dame Shepherds students for a talk on a career in National Security and Cybersecurity as well as ROTC programs.

Students learned about different programs of study at UNH, being a collegiate athlete, and the demands of college life.

This visit is part of our effort to hear from accomplished college students that are pursuing fun, exciting, and interesting careers!

Our Fall Appeal was a GREAT success! Thank you to the over 80 individuals who included Shepherds in their year-end philanthropic giving.

Under the theme of Open the Doors to Success, the amount raised was nearly twice our target. These funds will support our programs and services at both Kolbe Cathedral and Notre Dame in the months to come.

TIME TO SAVE THE DATE: SHEPHERDS 25th ANNIVERSARY GALA

Shepherds celebrates 25 years of "Changing Lives...One Student at a Time" next fall with our 25th Anniversary Gala, Thursday, October 19, 2023 at The Inn at Longshore in Westport

Shepherds only holds a major event like this every five years! It’s critical to building the financial resources to support more students over the years between events.

Sponsorships and tables will be available shortly. Should you wish to reserve a sponsorship early - personal or business - make a tax-deductible gift before the end of 2022, please contact Jane MacDonald at [email protected].
