Hunterdon County Sheriff Warns Of COVID-19 Scams:
False Test Results And Fake Cure Claims On The Rise
Hunterdon County Sheriff Frederick W. Brown recently began hearing complaints from citizens that they are receiving calls from persons and organizations claiming to be from the Centers For Disease Control (CDC) with COVID-19 test results.

Sheriff Brown said, “I would like to remind all residents of Hunterdon County about the increased prevalence of internet and telephone crime scams stemming from COVID-19, specifically relating to testing or test results, contact tracing (notification of potential contact with person who has had a positive test result), and fake cures or vaccines, all in an effort to obtain your social security or bank account information.”

BPU Storm Investigation Should Include
JCP&L Online Reporting Crash In Hunterdon
The crash of Jersey Central Power and Light’s (JCPL) on-line reporting system with Hunterdon County’s Communications Center during tropical storm Isaias should be an investigation priority when the NJ Board of Public Utilities (BPU) conducts its recently announced post mortem, according to Hunterdon Freeholder Board Deputy Director Sue Soloway.

Soloway stated, “JCP&L’s on-line reporting tool is supposed to make it easier for 9-1-1 dispatchers to report outages, downed lines, road closures and other power infrastructure damage instantaneously to JCP&L, through the internet, instead of time consuming phone calls and faxes, as was done in the past.

Soloway pointed out, “Hunterdon County’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has reported the system was not functional during the recent storm. Time is always of the essence for emergency response. Clearing roadways for emergency vehicles is a priority. The failure of JCP&L’s on-line reporting created a great hindrance for Hunterdon County’s public safety response.”

Annual Report Provides Extensive Look At Road Safety Projects
The Hunterdon County Department of Public Works and Engineering’s 2019 Annual Report, which provides a photographic and informational summary of various road, bridge and culvert improvement projects completed last year, demonstrates the magnitude of the County’s transportation infrastructure responsibilities, Freeholder Zach T. Rich reported at the August 18th Freeholder Board meeting.

Freeholder Rich, the Board’s liaison for the Department, said, “The 2019 list of projects, including twelve road paving and reconstruction projects and over twenty bridge and culvert improvement projects, is worth public review. The report shows the true extent of the hard work and construction expertise of the county’s infrastructure maintenance programs."
