Message From President Cordero: Bring on 2021!

I have heard many comments in recent weeks about people wishing for a quick end to 2020 so we can usher in better times. While it’s true that this year has challenged us, we have also been pushed to solve problems in new, creative ways. We have leaned on each other for support. We have accomplished much despite the odds. And we have emerged stronger.

As we look forward to 2021, many of us begin setting goals and resolutions. A recent trend is choosing a “focus word” that serves as a theme for the year and brings clarity that goes beyond a simple New Year’s resolution. If I were to choose a focus word for Sherman College for 2021, it would be IMPACT.

We have already gotten a jump-start with a few key projects. In a year that has introduced massive stumbling blocks for live continuing education credit for relicensure, Sherman College has cleared the way for D.C.s to earn the credits they need to renew their passion, improve their skills and meaningfully impact the patients and communities they serve.

Another way we are making an impact is through our college outreach and community service. In fact, this fall we published our first ever Community Impact Report, which shares how the college is supporting its communities while expanding its influence globally. Read the full report at https://tinyurl.com/ShermanImpact2020.

Finally, we make an impact every day by fulfilling our mission to educate and prepare students to become doctors of chiropractic focused on the analysis and adjustment of vertebral subluxation. Your support makes this possible, so we thank you for all you do to support Sherman College with your time, talent and treasure.

As we finish out the final weeks of 2020 and embrace this season of giving, I wish to remind you that all gifts, no matter the size or type, make a positive impact on Sherman College’s people, campus and programs, and the doctors of chiropractic who will serve their communities for generations to come. Please consider what gifts you can share to ensure Sherman College’s prosperity now and in the future.

Wishing you blessings,
Reopening Update for Winter Quarter 2021

As you depart for winter break, we wish you a safe and happy holiday season. We hope your time is well spent with your loved ones. While we cannot monitor your actions when off campus, we ask that you to continue practicing our safety protocols of wearing your masks, social distancing, and frequently washing your hands.

Ultimately, our hope is that everyone returns to campus healthy and safe. Please be aware of and adhere to local, state, and federal updates and recommendations during this time. As most exposures are related to off-campus activities, we strongly encourage you to return to the Spartanburg area and maintain social distancing as soon after the holidays as possible.
Please be advised that the campus will work under the following re-opening plan for winter quarter 2021. Reopening Director Dr. Janice Higgins-Fordree recommends the following regarding the winter 2021 return to campus post-holiday:
  • All classes will begin on January 5, 2021, in a distance learning format. No students on campus. All classes will resume normal on-campus schedule on Monday, January 11, 2021.
  • The Health Center will open for patient care on Monday, January 11, 2021.
  • First quarter and re-admitted students will report on Monday, January 4, 2021, as scheduled for orientation and to receive their college-issued iPads.
  • Faculty Development will be held on Monday, January 4, 2021, as scheduled with the option of virtual attendance.
  • The Intern Pinning ceremony scheduled for Friday, January 8, 2021, will be postponed until Friday, January 15, 2021.
2021 Tuition Freeze Reminder

Sherman College has been able to avoid an increase in tuition for 2021. Tuition will remain at the 2020 level, which is $8,825 per quarter. While the college continues to garner support to help offset campus projects, resources and technology, please know that we work diligently to strike a balance between tuition levels and providing the highest quality chiropractic educational experience. Our focus remains on maintaining high quality facilities and supporting our students with faculty, staff and administrative leaders who care about your success.
