Sherman Oaks Neighborhood Council September 2024: Issue 24-9

Welcome to the September 2024 edition of the Sherman Oaks Neighborhood Council's (SONC) newsletter, the Ziff Flyer.

Message from the President

Lindsay Imber

email: lindsay.imber.sonc@gmail.com

If you haven't noticed, it's hot outside. So hot that we have moved our monthly board meeting on Monday, September 9 from in-person to virtual. Refer to the meeting agenda for details and join information.

Although the current heat wave appears to have peaked, it is important to care for ourselves and others during this period of extreme heat.

Click here to view the Fire Department's hot weather safety page, which include recommendations such as drinking water, finding shade, checking in on those at risk, wearing light-colored clothing, not leaving anyone in a hot car, and other planning tips.

All 70+ City Public Library branches, including our Sherman Oaks branch, are available for cooling and shelter during regular business hours (the Sherman Oaks library closes at 8pm Mon-Thurs).

Tonight's Council meeting will feature a discussion with LAPD Captain Christopher Zine concerning local crime matters.

Following this, we will consider motions relative to a Commission on Lived Experience with Homelessness and proposed changes to the city-wide Neighborhood Council bylaws.

Thank you for your continued interest in and dedication to the Sherman Oaks community. Please stay safe and be kind to one another.

With Pride and Determination—

Lindsay

Note that virtual meetings are held via telephone or Zoom. The President and Committee Chairs are empowered to select a meeting format that works best for their group or committee. Meeting locations, formats (in-person vs virtual), dates, and times are listed on the applicable agenda published before the meeting.

For information on specific times and locations for each meeting please consult the SONC website calendar page:

What is a Neighborhood Council?
The Neighborhood Council system enables meaningful civic participation for all Angelenos and serves as a voice for improving government responsiveness to local communities and their needs. We are an advisory body to the City of Los Angeles, comprised of stakeholder volunteers who are devoted to the mission of improving our communities.

Neighborhood Councils advise the Mayor, City Council and City Departments on the City budget and will give local residents greater say over the decisions that affect our lives. You can view a brief video explaining what Neighborhood Councils do and what it means to be a Neighborhood Council member here.
