Sherman Oaks Neighborhood Council November 2024: Issue 24-11

Welcome to the November 2024 edition of the Sherman Oaks Neighborhood Council's (SONC) newsletter, the Ziff Flyer.

Message from the President

Lindsay Imber

email: lindsay.imber.sonc@gmail.com

Join SONC at our November 18 meeting with special guest Los Angeles County Assessor Jeff Prang.

Curious about how property values and assessments impact your neighborhood, your

business, and your home? Don’t miss this special event hosted by the Sherman Oaks

Neighborhood Council (SONC)! Join us and hear LA County Assessor Jeff Prang as he dives into the crucial role his office plays in shaping our communities, supporting property owners, and driving economic health in San Fernando Valley.

Assessor office resources will additionally be on hand at our meeting to answer your questions.

Following the 2024 general election season, SONC welcomes incoming State Assemblymember for the 44th District Nick Schultz and State Senator Henry Stern of the 27th District, representing Sherman Oaks at the state level. We look forward to continuing to work with our Congressman for the 32nd Congressional District, Brad Sherman and new Senator for California Adam Schiff.

We thank our outgoing Assemblymember Laura Friedman and her staff for service to our community and will miss seeing Diana, Assemblymember Friedman's field representative, at our monthly meetings. We wish Laura well in her upcoming term representing Congressional District 30.

Thank you for your continued interest in and dedication to the Sherman Oaks community. Please stay safe and be kind to one another.

With Pride and Determination—

Lindsay

What will our community look like in the future?

Sherman Oaks is being rezoned for greater density. The City’s Planning Department has a Citywide Housing Incentive Program (CHIP) Ordinance moving

forward for City Council approval as well as the Southeast Valley Community Plan Update (that includes Sherman Oaks) going through its approval process.

Together, these programs will determine how Sherman Oaks develops over the next 20 years. This is the time to get involved and help us put together a response that lets the City know how we want Sherman Oaks to look in the

future.

Please join us at Vision, the first Thursday of every month and participate in this ongoing effort to bring smart development and beauty into our community. Beauty is a concept that never comes up in discussions of zoning. State and City laws actually prohibit what they term “subjective” design criteria.

Don't miss out on our regular community engagement opportunities at the Sherman Oaks Library:

Vision: First Thursday of every month at 6:30pm.

Planning, Land Use, and Land Management Committee (PLUM): Third Thursday at 6:30pm.

Your participation is crucial in shaping the vibrant future of Sherman Oaks. Together, let's build a community we're proud to call home!

What is a Neighborhood Council?
The Neighborhood Council system enables meaningful civic participation for all Angelenos and serves as a voice for improving government responsiveness to local communities and their needs. We are an advisory body to the City of Los Angeles, comprised of stakeholder volunteers who are devoted to the mission of improving our communities.

Neighborhood Councils advise the Mayor, City Council and City Departments on the City budget and will give local residents greater say over the decisions that affect our lives. You can view a brief video explaining what Neighborhood Councils do and what it means to be a Neighborhood Council member here.
