Regent Feature: Drs. Amy Spoelstra and Sarah Hock

Regents Sarah Hock, D.C., '08, CACCP, and Amy Spoelstra, D.C., '08, are currently conducting a research project called "Impacts on Brain Development Through Chiropractic Care: A Retrospective Viability Study." The purpose of their research is to share the care and outcomes of subluxation-based chiropractic care for children with Neuro-Deflective Disorders™ associated with development.

Spoelstra currently owns and operates Spoelstra Family Chiropractic in Cour d'Alene, ID, where she has started the FOCUS program, which centers on behavioral and developmental challenges in children and adults. Participating patients will serve as case studies for mapping out the brain development of several children with Neuro-Deflective Disorders™.

"There's not a lot of research out there on brain development in chiropractic," says Hock, who serves Sherman College as assistant professor of clinical sciences and health center case doctor. "These cases show what happens when kids are under chiropractic care; brain development increases so much."

The Regent Program provides for the advancement of Sherman College. Its members support the college with annual gifts of $1,000 or more, and the collective financial commitment of its members has been a major source of support for the college's annual fund since 1997. IRAPS Call for Abstracts Deadline Extended

To be considered for presentation at IRAPS 2022, abstracts must be submitted by October 1, 2021. IRAPS will be held in conjunction with Lyceum 2022, April 28-30 on the Sherman College campus in Spartanburg, SC.
Register Now for the 2nd Annual Eric Bourg Memorial 5K!

Eric Bourg was a student at Sherman College who was passionate about chiropractic and had a genuine love for people and health. He was scheduled to graduate in March 2020 but tragically passed away in early 2018.

Sherman students and Eric's father, Dr. James Bourg, kept his memory alive by hosting the first-ever Eric Bourg Memorial 5K Run/Walk in 2019 during Lyceum weekend. This event's proceeds directly benefit a scholarship to represent what Eric would have wanted most: to graciously help others and promote the profession of chiropractic. We are excited to announce the 2nd Annual Eric Bourg Memorial 5K Run/Walk will take place again, during Lyceum Weekend, Saturday, October 30, 2021.

Many of Eric's family members are connected to Sherman College, including his parents, Dr. James Bourg ('83) and Dr. Monica Kemp ('81), and his aunt and uncle, Dr. Jeffrey Lamont ('86) and Dr. Sylvia Kemp-Lamont ('85). Eric's classmates are now graduates as well.

Join us in remembering the spirit of Eric Bourg by participating in this race or making a generous donation to this cause. Registration and information can be found on the Lyceum registration page or on the 5K Facebook event page.
Another Showcase Sherman Weekend in the Books!

Registration for the October 22-23 weekend is now open. To learn more please email admissions@sherman.edu.
Standing on the Principles: New Options for Supporting Sherman

If you feel strongly about supporting principled chiropractic education and Sherman College, the Department of Institutional Advancement just introduced two new ways to make your impact. The first of our new Foundational Membership giving levels is an entry-level giving society.

At only $10 per month, young graduates, paraprofessionals and students often find that this is the best giving option for them. At the next level, our brand new Principle Club is $33 per month. These new Foundational Memberships are perfect for those who may wish to become regular donors but are not yet the right fit for our Regent program. Learn more about these programs and how your support helps us "Adjust the World for a Better Future."
Campus-Wide T-Shirt Design Contest Winner Announced!

Congratulations to DC2B Kayla Phlegar on winning the bookstore's t-shirt design contest! Her design was voted on by students, faculty and staff and will be printed on t-shirts coming to the bookstore soon.

"One of my favorite parts about Sherman College is the focus placed on the philosophy of chiropractic," remarked contest winner Kayla Phlegar when asked about her t-shirt design. "The school truly is 'rooted in principle,' and that has changed my perspective on health and chiropractic. I wanted the design to be fun but also true to Sherman, and I thought this would be a great representation."
