Santa Visits Sherman College
Health Center

Santa Claus posed for photos and shared donuts and hot cocoa with his fans, young and older, on December 4 at the Sherman College Chiropractic Health Center.

Most of our guests loved having Santa there; some of the little ones were a bit unsure about him. But our interns, patients and employees (and their families) all enjoyed the chance to spend time with Santa, make their wishes known and spread some holiday cheer.

College Family Mourns the Loss
of Dr. Leslie Wise

The Sherman College family is deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Leslie Wise, D.C., on December 3. Wise joined Sherman College in October 1974 and served in many roles during his 44 years at the college. It has been said that Wise taught or interacted with every student who walked the halls of Sherman College until his retirement in September 2018. The family held a small gathering earlier this month to honor his birthday; a celebration of life will be held soon.

Wise graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1974. That same year, he started his practice in Spartanburg and began working for Sherman College, which Thom Gelardi, D.C., one of Wise’s mentors, had founded just one year earlier. “I wanted to be a part of the newest college in the field,” Wise shared in a 2005 magazine article. “I saw Dr. Gelardi as a visionary, and I wanted to be around the people here. This was an exciting place in the ’70s and remains that way.” Read the full story on our blog.

ROARing Around the World

Sherman College’s Reach Out And Recruit (ROAR) doctors have been busy promoting the profession and sharing in the college’s vision of Adjusting the World for a Better Future. Recently ROAR doctor Geraldine Heredia of Argentina organized a mission trip to serve the native communities of Yacuy and Santa Victoria that are located on the borders of Argentina, Bolivia, and Paraguay; 17 Argentinian chiropractors joined Dr. Heredia on this mission.

Dr. Heredia thanked Sherman College President Dr. Edwin Cordero for coming to Argentina and inspiring her to serve. “[His visit] at the Quiropráctica Eficaz Congress was the spark that ignited in me the impulse to transcend the professional practice of chiropractic and go beyond,” she said. “I [was] inspired… to serve our neighbors.”

Sherman College Director of ROAR Dr. Jorge Campos was excited to see fellow doctors serving. “We congratulate all those Argentinian chiropractors that were part of this beautiful mission,” he said. “And we thank our ROAR Ambassador Dr. Geraldine Heredia for adjusting the world for a better future.”

The ROAR program welcomes members who share a passion for building the future of the chiropractic profession. ROAR doctors mentor and inspire the next generation of chiropractors. Learn more on our ROAR webpage.
