Join Us for the Sherman College CE Summit

In response to many cancelled live continuing education events, the Office of Continuing Education is bringing together speakers from around the globe for the Sherman CE Summit: A One-Day Virtual Event to be held on September 12, 2020. Up to 10 hours of CE credit will be available for D.C.s in select states in a live-streamed format, just like Lyceum 2020. Featured speakers include Drs. Heidi Haavik, Tamara MacIntyre, Matthew McCoy, and more.
Congratulations, June and September Sherman Grads!
Sherman College and the Office of Student Affairs salute the June and September 2020 graduates with a special graduation video. With photos and videos from the past 3.5 years, this tribute serves as a reminder to the class of 2020 that they are incredibly special and talented. Chiropractic Health Center Reopens for Patient Care
The Sherman College Health Center was pleased to reopen Monday, June 1, to provide chiropractic care to current patients. Patients contacted their interns directly to schedule appointments and be advised on appropriate health and safety protocols. The college referred potential new patients to the Alumni Directory to search for local Sherman graduates for care at this time.
More Than $18,500 Raised for Sherman Students in Need
Aimed at supporting students facing financial difficulties during this time, the college has established the Sherman Pride Student Emergency Fund . As of June 4, the generosity of our Sherman College of Chiropractic community has raised $18,517 for students in need.

The Sherman Pride Student Emergency Fund allows students to request up to $500 for urgent needs and will not require repayment. All donations received by the college go directly and immediately to students, ensuring that they are prepared, cared for and safe. Make your gift here .
Campus Gradually Reopens
While online learning will continue for summer quarter, Sherman College has begun opening to accommodate optional live instruction for certain hands-on courses and will soon reopen the anatomy lab. Participation is voluntary for students at this time.

The college anticipates resuming live class sessions in fall quarter, based upon outcomes, data and information gathered in the first three phases of its reopening plan, a comprehensive document that has been shared with employees and students. Welcoming Prospective Students
As part of its reopening, Sherman College is beginning to welcome prospective students back to campus. In-person campus visits may be scheduled on Tuesdays and Fridays this summer; capacity is very limited and social distancing measures will be implemented.

For those not able or ready to travel to campus, a virtual tour of campus is now available here and a 360-degree tour is being finalized for release soon. Prospective students can also join us for virtual campus visits every Thursday at 11 a.m. this summer.
Kent, Students Published in Annals of Vertebral Subluxation Research

Director for Scholarly Activity Christopher Kent, D.C., J.D., has recently had several co-authored works published in the Annals of Vertebral Subluxation Research, Volume 2020. In addition, three Sherman students, Suzzanne M. Candelaria-Perez, Christopher Long and Brooke Mills, served as co-authors on three studies; they have received scholarships as Research Fellows of the Foundation for Vertebral Subluxation.   • “A Scoping Review of Salivary Tests for Immunoglobulin A, Cortisol, and C-Reactive Protein in Consideration of Their Use as Immune Biomarkers in Chiropractic Research.” See authors and read the abstract.
  • “Immune Function, Chiropractic and Vertebral Subluxation: A Multi-Pronged Project to Address Fundamental Questions in an Evidence Informed Framework.” See authors and read the abstract.
  • “A Scoping Review of Chiropractic, Vertebral Subluxation and Immune Function with Implications for Development of a Protocol for Measurement of Immune Biomarkers in Chiropractic Research and the Development of Related Policy.” See authors and read the abstract.
  • “A Critical Evaluation of the World Federation of Chiropractic’s Fatally Flawed Review of Immunity and Chiropractic.” See authors and read the abstract.
Evoke, SABCA Students Give Back to the Community
The Student American Black Chiropractic Association (SABCA) and Evoke Club donated to Spartanburg’s Miracle Hill in a collaborative effort to support the community. Evoke Club President James Hopkins said “It was an amazing feeling donating canned goods to Miracle Hill.”

Miracle Hill Ministries is South Carolina’s largest and most comprehensive provider of homeless services. By the two clubs donating canned goods and their time, they were able to contribute to an effort to help better the lives of many people in our community who are in need.
TLC Club Joins Windows of Hope Movement
The college’s TLC Club recently participated in the Windows of Hope movement. Started by a fellow TLC coach, Dr. Ann Forte in AZ, this effort includes painting messages of hope on the windows of local businesses to spread cheer and kindness.

TLC Club President Kristin Marlowe and Vice President Lucas Maynard, as well as Kristin’s sons, Caden and Preston, joined faculty and TLC members Drs. Rosemary DePasque and Scot McCormick on campus last month to paint the words “Be Hope, Peace and Love” on a Scallon Hall window.
College Publications, Communications Receive National Recognition

Four of Sherman College’s key marketing and communications projects have been recognized at the national level, taking home second place and honorable mention prizes in the National Federation of Press Women (NFPW) Communications Contest. Before advancing to the national contest, an annual competition that encourages and rewards excellence in communication, the entries won first-place honors in Media Women of South Carolina’s statewide contest. More than 1,800 entries were submitted in this year’s national contest.
Two Sherman College entries earned second place in the nation, including a speech written for Lyceum 2019 and a print advertisement for the college’s Chiropractic Health Center. Receiving honorable mentions were the college’s enewsletter, Sherman Shares , and the Gelardi Student Center Ribbon Cutting Campaign. Senior Director of Marketing and Communications Karen Brower Rhodes, M.B.A., produced these communications in 2019 as part of initiatives spearheaded by the Office of Institutional Advancement and Public Relations. August Showcase Sherman Weekend Scheduled

Prospective students can register now through July 17 for our next Showcase Sherman Weekend. Showcase Sherman Weekend is designed to allow prospective students and their families to explore chiropractic and immerse themselves in the Sherman College experience. Future doctors of chiropractic will ignite their passion for leadership and learn how to begin their pursuit of joining the rewarding profession of chiropractic. Attendees tour campus, participate in leadership exercises, attend a palpation session, and explore downtown Spartanburg and more. Health profession advisors are also encouraged to visit to learn more about the college and chiropractic so they can best serve the students they mentor.
