Dear Sherman Street Neighbors,
We are pleased to report the new quiet zone will go into effect at 12:01 am tomorrow, Saturday, September 15th. The City completed all construction required for the quiet zone, including installation of medians on both sides of the crossing and relocation of commercial driveways adjacent to the medians. Construction work in the area will continue for at least another week to complete adjacent crosswalk improvements and and other finish work.
The City has coordinated with the Federal Railroad Administration and the MBTA to ensure the new quiet zone designation is communicated to all relevant railroad and Commuter Rail operators.
As a next step, the City will pursue approval from the Federal Railroad Administration to modify the medians to allow for improved access to the parking lots adjacent to the crossing.
