SHEYNA'S SCOOP
COLLEGE TIPS AND ADVICE FOR ALUMS
Time Management
October is a stressful, busy, yet fun time. At this point in your college experience, you should know:
  • What classes are your "easy and "hard" classes;
  • Your workload schedule;
  • Your club/organization time commitments;
  • To look at your school's calendar for upcoming events of interest

To tackle all of your personal, school and social commitments, I highly suggest writing out a schedule in a format that works best for you. Here's an example:
Midterms
Here's an article with great tips for midterm success! Take a look and try at least 4 of these tips. My favorite is "asking for help." When I finally started asked for help in college, I saw much improvement.
Career Fairs
Your schools are probably starting to host career fairs and many students think it doesn't apply to them until their senior year. Not True! You should attend career fairs no matter your year in college.
  • Gain information from organizations/companies in fields you're interested in
  • Perfect time to practice your networking skills
  • Possibly get information on summer internships and/or jobs after graduation
When attending the career fair, do the following:
  • Wear business attire (men-suit or at least khakis with a suit jacket and tie. women-appropriate length dress/skirt or pants suit.)
  • Bring your resume
  • Research the list of employers before you attend
  • Create questions to ask of employers you're interested in
  • Practice articulating what you want to do as a career
*As always, please feel free to reach out to me if you need assistance in your prep work! Contact information is at the bottom of the page. :)
Homecoming
Many schools have a week of Homecoming activities or at least a weekend in October. Homecoming is a great opportunity to increase your school pride, hang out with friends and network with alumni.

I challenge you to attend at least one Homecoming activity at your school. Also, don't be afraid to venture to other schools' Homecomings. It's a great time to meet new people and make memories that you'll never forget. Here are some of my favorite Homecoming memories from college!
