Parshat VaYechi
Shabbat Shalom
January 2 (18 Tevet, 5781)
Dear Friends,

I hope that your new calendar year is off to a good start! We all want to thrive in the months ahead. As we reflect on the message of Parshat VaYechi, tune in to our latest Podcast: 2021: Three Keys For A Successful Year.

At this time of looking ahead, I am excited that Kesser will be offering an opportunity to learn from an outstanding speaker and scholar, Dr. Leslie Ginsparg Klein. Dr. Klein is a well-regarded historian. She is also the Dean at the Women’s Torah Institute (Maalot) where my daughter, Devorah, attends college in Baltimore.

Join us on Saturday evening January 9 at 7:00 pm. The title of Dr. Klein’s talk is Shidduchim, Shandas & Shaping the Future: Colonial Jews in a Non-Jewish World. In this presentation, Dr. Klein will help us look at history as we consider its lessons for our own times. What lessons does Jewish life in Colonial America hold for us in the year 2021? We will consider that and more as we engage with Dr. Klein next Saturday evening. Be sure to mark it in your calendar.

On behalf of the congregation, I’d like to thank all of you who gave so generously to the congregation over this past year. Thanks to your support and sacrifice, Kesser Israel will continue to be a strong resource for our Kehila in the months ahead. There is no way that we could do it without you, so thank you! It’s been a challenging year, and we are so fortunate to have one another in these times. Please keep in mind the upcoming Annual General Membership Meeting will take place on the morning of Sunday January 31, at 10:00 am, via Zoom. Please stay tuned for more details.

Shabbat Shalom,

Rabbi Ken Brodkin

Jewish Free Loan of Greater Portland
Jewish or “Hebrew” Free Loan Associations have been in the business of providing interest-free loans to individuals across North America for over a century. There is a recognition that sometimes life throws a wrench in one’s plans, and that the support of one’s community can make the difference in how that challenge is met.
