FOCUSING ON MENTAL HEALTH THIS OCTOBER | |
October is recognized as National Depression Education and Awareness Month and National Depression and Mental Health Screening Month, a time to educate the public about depression, reduce stigma, and encourage people to seek help.
October 10 was also World Mental Health Day, reminding us that mental wellness is essential to overall well-being and that everyone deserves access to care, compassion, and community support.
This year, conversations about mental health come at a time of uncertainty surrounding a potential government shutdown and the possible suspension of vital programs such as SNAP, WIC, and housing vouchers.
At Bridgeway, we know that mental health cannot be separated from basic needs like food, housing, and income. When those supports are disrupted, the risk of crisis grows.
That’s why Bridgeway remains committed to ensuring continuity of care and coordination with social-service systems, so that when individuals and families face hardship, we are here to help.
If you or someone you know needs support, please call the Bridgeway Access Line at 877-692-5664. Help is always available.

ON THE GROUND AT MORRIS AVENUE: A CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
By Robert Edes, Chief Operating Officer, Bridgeway Behavioral Health Services
At Bridgeway, we understand that healing begins not just with the right services, but in the right space. That’s why I’m proud to share a construction update on the renovation of our outpatient facility at 567 Morris Avenue in Elizabeth, which will soon reopen as our Center for Integrated Outpatient Services.
This renovation is a central part of our $2 million Capital Campaign: A Legacy of Impact. A Future of Recovery, and I’m honored to oversee the work bringing this project to life.
What’s Happening Now
Bridgeway's site at 567 Morris Ave in Elizabeth is being transformed into a modern facility; every wall, wire, and pipe is being replaced to meet today’s standards for safety, efficiency, and accessibility. Today, the project stands at approximately 60% complete. The interior has been fully cleared and rebuilt with new framing, electrical wiring, plumbing, and HVAC systems—each designed for long-term sustainability and ease of maintenance. The goal was to improve energy efficiency, and structural reinforcements to ensure that the building will stand for future use..

What brought you to Bridgeway?
When I first joined Bridgeway 30 years ago, I was a single mom looking for a job to fill my time while my daughter Caitlin was in school. My neighbor who worked part time for Bridgeway at the time was planning on moving out of state. He approached me and asked if I was interested and I said yes.
He helped coordinate an interview and I have been here for the last 30 years. It soon became more than just a job. Bridgeway’s mission to support individuals with mental health challenges truly resonated with me. I was drawn to the idea of working in an environment where I could contribute behind the scenes to a cause that changes lives. Even in an administrative assistant role, I felt I could help make a difference and I have never looked back.
