RMHC SWFL Spotlight Series: February

With February National Children’s Dental Health Month, our Spotlight Series

this month showcases our Ronald McDonald Care Mobile® program and one of our

dental patients, sweet Astrid!

Astrid's Story:

During a routine visit to a Collier County elementary school, the team met Astrid, an adorably sweet second grader. Astrid was not eating well, and her teacher was concerned it might be because of her teeth. Her screening confirmed that Astrid had widespread tooth decay and infection.

The Healthcare Network staff immediately contacted Astrid’s family to devise a care plan. Today, Astrid is smiling brighter and out of discomfort thanks to regular check-ups and cleanings with Healthcare Network.

About the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile Program

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, tooth cavities remain a common chronic disease among American youth 6-19 years old. Lack of dental visits can contribute to a variety of health issues including oral diseases, pain, infection, and tooth loss.

Made possible by philanthropy and our partnerships with Healthcare Network and Family Health Centers, the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile program, our dental offices on wheels, travel to SWFL communities to provide children who otherwise would not receive routine dental care with free-of-charge services, education on oral hygiene to support dental wellness, and specialist referrals when needed.

Of the 48 total RMHC Care Mobiles worldwide,

we are proud to have 2 to serve Southwest Florida.
