Introduction to Positive Education
See Different. Think Different. Make a Difference.
It’s important to celebrate individual thinking and encourage students to form their own points of view, but it’s just as important to recognize that other people’s points of view matter, too. Viewpoint Diversity is an academic framework for Positive Education, and it’s about understanding—not empathy or tolerance or consensus. Its focus is on developing a better sense of self-awareness and awareness of others through the development and strengthening of character. You can get started on the process by finding out more about your own moral stances by taking the “ Moral Foundations Questionnaire ,” or by learning about some of your implicit bias by taking tests at Project Implicit. Then come to Shipley’s conference to learn how to continue on your way, and your students’ way, to a broader perspective.
