Shipment #8 to Ukraine Leaves Midwest Mission

On Friday, November 11, we sent our 8th shipment to Ukraine.

It’s hard to fathom the disaster and crisis those in Ukraine are experiencing. As our staff and volunteers gathered around to pray over the shipment, we prayed for Ukraine, and we continue to pray – that the war would come to an end, that innocent people wouldn’t have to suffer, and that the resources we send would reach the people who need it most.

A blanket or Rice Meal Bag might only be a bandaid over their crisis at hand, but it might be just enough to give a glimmer of hope to a suffering people. Our hope is that it brings them just a little closer to Jesus.

In this shipment:

  • 27,000 Rice Meal Bags
  • 275,000 food service gloves
  • 2,000 Personal Dignity Kits
  • 92 sleeping mats
  • 499 blankets
  • 1,590 disposable diapers
  • 30 Cover Them With Love Quilts
  • 107 Little Girl Outfits
  • 85 baby outfits

Value: $115,025

Midwest Mission Sends First Shipment of Disaster Relief to Florida

In late September, Hurricane Ian ripped through Florida as a Category 4 hurricane. This hurricane displaced approximately 40,600 people, leaving their houses and livelihoods in shambles.

When disaster strikes, chaos ensues as victims try to figure out what they have left, what they need, and what they need to mourn.

This is why Midwest Mission doesn’t act until the Disaster Relief stage. During the first stage, the Rescue stage, people are trying to simply come up for air. We never want to add more chaos to their crisis.

While those in Florida have been navigating the disaster, we have been preparing to act. We asked for monetary and physical donations to make Cleaning Kits and buy additional supplies to help as they begin the clean up efforts.

On Tuesday, November 15, we sent our first shipment full of Disaster Relief items to help those affected by Hurricane Ian. The shipment was received in Florida on Wednesday, November 16.

This shipment is a beautiful example of partnership. We worked through Food For The Poor’s Domestic and Disaster programs, alongside the Florida Catholic Conference and the Catholic Charities of Florida. The vulnerable populations in and around Bonita Springs, Florida will soon receive much needed assistance. We will continue working with the Florida Catholic Conference to meet their current Disaster Relief needs.

This shipment included:

  • 504 UMCOR Cleaning Kits
  • 720 UMCOR Hygiene Kits
  • 520 totes and lids - purchased with monetary donations for Hurricane Ian relief
  • 11 generators - purchased with monetary donations for Hurricane Ian relief
  • 10 gas cans - purchased with monetary donations for Hurricane Ian relief
  • 10 extension cords - purchased with monetary donations for Hurricane Ian relief

Value: $55,624.40
