JULY/AUGUST 2020 NEWSLETTER

Hello!

Uncertainty — the one word we can all agree best describes this year! With the Corona virus pandemic, we have all seen and heard about the effects long business closures have had on local merchants, particularly restaurants and local retailers.

While we’ve not experienced a slow-down in business, we have experienced supply chain disruptions, out of stock items, and shipping delays.

With continued uncertainty in the coming months, concern for availability of product, and wanting to do our part to help support other local small businesses, Ronnie and I set out one afternoon to “shop locally”. We met with several artists and local shop owners and got to see first-hand what they have to offer.

This month’s feature article highlights the many great local home furnishing boutiques we found. So if you're looking for an outing, other than a trip to the grocery store, head to Downtown or West Annapolis for an enjoyable and socially safe distanced shopping experience. Happy shopping!

Kindest regards,

SHOP LOCAL FOR HOME FURNISHINGS
ARTISANS, GIFTS AND HOME DECOR
Annapolis is not only rich in history, but rich in art and home furnishings. On our ‘field trip’ we found so many awesome local home furnishing stores. We enjoyed a great afternoon and found shopping in smaller stores low key and safe. No crowds, no lines and no waiting to see if on line purchases will work.

Patrice Drago
Starting at Maryland Hall, home to many local artists,we met with Patrice Drago.
I first met Patrice back in 2016 when we both participated in the Annapolis Show House on Prince George Street. Patrice enjoys painting abstracts of nature, as well as urban environments and custom commissions. Featured here an abstract of sun-drenched marshes done with layers of metallic paints and glass beads to draw you in.
Kim Hovell
Kim Hovell at the top of West Street just off the Taylor Avenue Circle. Born and raised in Annapolis, Kim’s connection to the Chesapeake and love of East Coast lifestyle inspire her paintings. She is best known for her watercolor paintings of oysters, water life, and Annapolis landscapes. All are offered in original paintings, prints, pillows, candles and gifts.
Nancy Hammond Editions is also located on West Street. An iconic local artist, Nancy Hammond is well known for her cut paper originals and silk screened prints featuring Herons, seascapes, and local Annapolis landscapes. All are offered beautifully framed. The gallery also offers beautiful wood pieces by Richard Hammond as well as other gifts featuring Nancy Hammonds work.

Shown here 'The Lookout' was recently installed in our client's living room — a real statement piece that beautifully compliments the grand piano!

Be Home
Be Home. On Maryland Avenue offers a unique selection of art, lighting, upholstered furnishings and home accessories. If you're like me, and you want to "try before you buy", Be Home has several upholstered pieces on their showroom floor that you can sit in and try out for height and comfort.

Annebeth’s on Maryland Ave. is the perfect shop for gift baskets and other items pertaining to entertaining.

Revival Home & Gifts is a boutique shop in West Annapolis where you'll find unique gifts and home accessories.
Park Home
Park Home is located in Park Plaza in Severna Park. Owned by Scott and Heather Summers it is a great local shop that offers new furniture and home accessories with unique antique and vintage finds. Whenever I go into their store, I always walk out with a special treat — usually for my own home!

Sweet Home Salvage is a fabulous new shop in Crofton, Maryland filled with a blend of new, vintage and antique home furnishings meant to inspire. It is only open for scheduled shows or by appointment, so always check their facebook page for open dates and times!
Some may know exactly what they are looking for or know when they’ve found the right piece; others may still be overwhelmed with selection and just need a professional’s opinion. Should you need a little help, we’re available to help you complete your rooms with the best selections that fit your lifestyle. We invite you to get out and shop locally!
TRENDS
Painting is an easy and inexpensive way to update and/or completely change the look of a room. Neutral colors are always on trend but what shade of neutral should you choose? I recently found these peel-and-stick color samples by Samplize. What a great way to test several colors in a room without having to purchase and paint as many colors on your walls. Shown here, Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams, is one of my favorite neutral colors. Is it green, gray, or blue green — this chamelion color looks different in every room depending on the light!
