Chamber staff attended the Annual Pennsylvania Association of Chamber Professionals Conference in Lancaster this week. We had the opportunity to hear from expert speakers and learn from our Chamber peers. We were able to gain fresh ideas that will benefit our members and discuss issues we feel are important to our community. We had a fantastic time learning and engaging with our peers while celebrating the achievements of Chambers across the Commonwealth.

HESSTON, PA - The Huntingdon County Visitors Bureau (HCVB) is proud to announce that Jennifer Brumbaugh-McClain, a dedicated employee at Lincoln Caverns, has been recognized at the state level as “Employee of the Year, Tourism Entity” by the Pennsylvania Restaurant and Lodging Association (PRLA) Spirit of Hospitality Awards. This prestigious honor was presented to Jennifer at a gala held Monday, Oct. 28, in Mount Pocono, PA, celebrating her outstanding service and commitment to Pennsylvania tourism.

The PRLA Spirit of Hospitality, Employee of the Year Award recognizes non-management employees with over two years of experience who demonstrate exceptional dedication and service to their place of employment, customers, and the wider community. Jennifer’s contributions reflect this ideal; her loyalty and dedication to both education and community engagement have made her an invaluable part of Lincoln Caverns and a respected figure in Huntingdon County’s tourism industry.

Since joining Lincoln Caverns in May 1999, Jennifer has made a significant impact as Program Coordinator, developing and teaching a wide range of educational programs on cave life, geology and other related topics. Her work reaches students on-site and through outreach programs, inspiring a deeper understanding and appreciation of Pennsylvania’s natural resources.

Jennifer’s journey to this state-level recognition began in April 2024, when she was named “Employee of the Year” by the Huntingdon County Visitors Bureau as part of the Annual Destination Excellence Awards. This county-level honor served as a stepping stone to the statewide recognition she has received.

"The Huntingdon County Visitors Bureau extends congratulations to Jennifer Brumbaugh-McClain on this well-deserved accolade," said Matt Price, HCVB Executive Director.

"Jennifer's achievements highlight the vital role of passionate individuals in Pennsylvania’s tourism industry and exemplify dedication and excellence within the local community," added Lissy Kinder, HCVB Communications and Partnership Manager.

In total, fourteen Spirit of Hospitality Awards were presented. The Manager of the Year - Lodging Operations award went to Amanda Burroughs, General Manager, Omni Bedford Springs Resort. The Friends of Raystown Lake, another local organization, was recognized as a finalist for the Wilmer S. Lapp Community Service Award. The award was presented to Live! Hotel & Casino Philadelphia.

UC Fraud and UC-1099G Tax Forms

Victim of unemployment fraud?
Criminals using stolen identities filed claims for unemployment compensation in other people's names. Because unemployment compensation is taxable, state unemployment agencies submit Forms 1099-G to individuals in whose names and Social Security numbers the unemployment compensation was paid and to the IRS. Victims of fraud who receive Forms 1099-G with inaccurate amounts of unemployment compensation in Box 1 should notify the state agencies of the inaccuracies and request corrected Forms 1099-G. The Department of Labor details www.dol.gov/agencies/eta/UIIDtheft.

Taxpayers should only report income they actually received on their tax returns. Do not report income you did not receive. The IRS offers tax guidance to victims at https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/identity-theft-and-unemployment-benefits.

More Information
Did you know........

Small businesses represent the largest segment by number of most local chamber membership rolls. Results in the research study by The Shapiro Group, Inc. and Market Street indicate the impact of local chamber membership on small businesses is very powerful. If a consumer knows a small business is a member of its local chamber, the business enjoys a 44 percent increase in its consumer favorability rating, a 51 percent increase in consumer awareness, a 57 percent increase in its local reputation and a 63 percent increase in the likelihood that consumers will patronize the business in the future.

Research indicates that chamber membership stimulates business-to-business commerce in the local community. Other businesses in town are more likely to do business with you and your company if you are a member of the local chamber. Because a major part of a small business typically comes from business-to-business services, it is essential to maintain a positive standing within the local business community.
