Federal Government Releases Economic Snapshot
As businesses and many sectors of the economy closed or curtailed their activities as a result of the pandemic, the Canadian and global economies took a severe hit. In Canada, 5.5 million Canadians – 30 per cent of the workforce – either lost their jobs or saw their hours significantly scaled back over March and April. Funding for Startups and SMEs now available
Employer   and  student   applications are now for Venture Canada's Fall 2020 hiring period! Work-from-home internships are welcome, and employers can identify an eligible from their own network or hire from their pre-vetted candidate pool. Employers should  apply ASAP   for their best chance to secure funding this Fall.
Emergency Support Fund for Cultural, Heritage and Sport Organizations
The government announced  the final details regarding Phase 2 of the disbursement of the $500-million fund, announced earlier this year. This final component helps address some of the gaps that have been identified by the industry across Canada since the fund was first implemented. This final component of Phase 2 of the COVID-19 Emergency Support Fund for Cultural, Heritage and Sport Organizations will be distributed through grants. More information
Labour Legislation Proposed
Bill 32 Restoring Balance in Alberta Workplaces Act was introduced and if passed will see the changes rolled out in stages. Employment standards will be updated to reflect changes to pay, payroll, averaging arrangements and more. Changes to Health Legislation
The provincial government proposed health care legislation that includes c hanging the approval process for chartered surgical facilities to operate, enabling government to contract with a range of organizations to operate medical clinics and clarifying COVID-19 quarantine requirements under the Public Health Act.

RFP to Review Provincial Pandmemic Response
The government is seeking proposals to review the province’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Consultants have until Aug.10 to submit their proposals and all proposals will undergo a thorough review process. The province aims to choose the successful candidate by Aug.19 so that the pandemic response review can begin immediately and be completed this fall.
