It's spring fever.... You don't quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!
- Mark Twain

Warm weather is finally here.  Life is buzzing everywhere as colorful tree buds burst into fresh leaves,  bulbs push up into bloom,  insects emerge to scurry about their business.  "The world's favorite season is the Spring," wrote Edwin Way Teale.  "All things seem possible in May." What is it that YOU want this spring?  More time for long walks?  To surround yourself with gardens?  Has Spring awakened your resolve to live the  healthiest you can be?  It is possible!   Read on to  discover programs and practitioners dedicated to your wellness.

Wishing you the Merriest Month of May,
from all of us at Shoreline Center for Wholistic Health.

What Does Breast Thermography Offer?

What Does Breast Thermography Offer?

* THE EARLIEST BREAST CANCER DETECTION AVAILABLE
Breast Thermography has the ability to warn women (or men) up to 8 - 10 years before any other method currently available that a cancer may be forming. This allows prompt diagnosis and early treatment before invasive tumor growth has occurred.
* NO RADIATION
Radiation causes damage to DNA and chromosomes. There is no "safe" level of radiation according to the Nuclear Regulatory Agency.
* NO COMPRESSION
Mammography requires compression of a woman's breasts and this is often uncomfortable or even painful. There is no body contact with Thermography.
* ACCURACY
Clinical studies have shown Thermography is 90% accurate - 10% is due to non-active tumors.. Thermograms are more accurate than Mammograms in younger women with dense breast tissue, overweight women, and in women with fibrocystic breasts or breast implants. Thermography also evaluates all areas of the breasts and regional lymph nodes, whereas mammography misses portions of the breast tissue. Approximately 1/3 of all breast cancers occur in women under 45, where mammography is not recommended.
* ESTROGEN EFFECT ON BREASTS SHOWN
The single greatest risk factor in the development of breast cancer is if a woman has an estrogen dominant effect on her breasts. Thermography can provide information on estrogen effect that a doctor can use to treat and decrease a woman's breast cancer risk. Even more important, Thermography can demonstrate whether treatment is having a beneficial effect.

WELCOME!  GRETA MACMILLAN, LCSW

I am a licensed clinical social worker with a broad experience base spanning twenty years in the medical and behavioral health fields working with adults across the lifespan. With a special interest in chronic illness, spirituality, seniors/elderly and caregivers, I take a holistic approach to assessing your needs. By listening to your story, I will work with you towards enhancing your personal well being and maximize your healthy support networks.
I enjoy helping single parents, seniors, and adults coping with illness and chronic disease find a sense of connectedness in a society with many demands and little support for maintaining balance. I am also skilled in identifying elder cognitive disorders and have a wealth of knowledge surrounding their care.
I have training in various varieties of cognitive behavioral therapy and use mindfulness as a cornerstone in teaching coping strategies and helping people navigate health issues, grief and life transitions. I look forward to hearing from you, please email or give me a call, I am accepting new patients!

Greta MacMillan, LCSW

Welcome!  Mary Lou Bernardo, PhD

I am a psychologist with a wide-ranging clinical background. While I treat adults with general psychological/emotional issues, I specialize in health psychology, a branch of psychology that focuses on someone's mental and emotional reactions to an illness or recovery from an illness. Health psychology also focuses on how mental, emotional, and social factors affect a person's physical well-being.

I wasn't always a psychologist. I began my career as a pediatric nurse. As a psychologist and a non-practicing nurse practitioner, I enjoy helping people learn the skills to synchronize their mind and body in order to optimize their well-being.  Each person is unique, with a unique past and present.  Each person's journey is unique and so is each person's destiny.

I firmly believe in working with people more as a teacher or collaborator than as a "fixer". I also believe in collaboration with primary care providers and other healthcare specialists. My primary strategies are strength based and cognitive behavioral, often incorporating various relaxation/mindfulness techniques.

I am currently accepting new clients on Saturdays, by appointment.  You may reach me by phone at (203) 745-8778 or by email at bernardo.marylou@gmail.com.

Yoga nidra , or yogic sleep as it is commonly known, is an immensely powerful meditation technique, and one of the easiest yoga practices to develop and maintain. While the practitioner rests comfortably in shavasana  (corpse pose), this systematic meditation takes you through the pancha maya kosha  (five layers of self), leaving you with a sense of wholeness......
