Dear Shortridge High School Alumni:

Congratulations to those alumni who were celebrated in late January for their cheer spirit. On January 28, the Shortridge Alumni Association invited former athletic group cheer leaders for an enjoyable evening, refreshments, and building tour to former spirit leaders from the '50s-'80s (see pictureS below). Current Shortridge High School student, Kayla Smith, was recognized by the SAA for her own promotion of athletics and school spirit. Kayla, a senior, also was awarded a $500 scholarship by the SAA that will be awarded during senior awards events prior to June commencement.

We are heading into the final stretch of the school year. After nearly eight months of classes, we are excited to celebrate the 117th graduating class of Shortridge High School earn their diplomas. Commencement will occur at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 9, 2017, in Caleb Mills Auditorium. Alumni are invited to attend graduation. If you are interested, please contact Mr. Nathan Ellis at [email protected] and he will mail event tickets to you.

I would like to express my gratitude to the Alumni Association as the sponsor of the graduation reception that occurs after the ceremony. The reception is a nice affair for the graduates, their families and guests. Pictures will be published in News/briefs and/or placed on the SAA website.

SAVE THE DATE: APRIL 22, 2017, 7-10:30 P.M.

The SHS Parent-Teacher-Student Association (PTSA) is hosting our annual Global Gala fundraiser April 22 with food, a silent auction and music. (Click  Global Gala ) Tickets go on sale 4/3/17. We will be returning to the Basile Opera Center, 4011 N. Pennsylvania Street, Indianapolis (46205) for this event that last year was tremendously successful. Tickets are $25, or a table for eight (8) at $200. All proceeds go to support the arts program at Shortridge. We encourage SHS alumni attend this event; however, if you are unable to attend, please consider sponsoring a ticket or table for our faculty.

In addition to the aforementioned activities, we are inducting a new group of students into our National Honor Society, recognizing our winter athletes at an awards ceremony; our hiking club is heading off to Shades State Park and the baseball team has a full schedule of games this spring.

There are always events and activities happening on campus, but some of the many successes of the 2016-2017 school year will be shared in the next edition of this newsletter. As always, please feel free to visit the campus, attend a school event or cheer for our Blue Devils at a spring competition.
