Let's Talk About North Port's Future

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: Just this week the North Port City Commission voted down the application of a gas station requesting additional pumps, 24-hour operations, and a 7-11 convenience store from being built on the corner of Price and Cranberry, despite a city staff recommendation to approve all but the 24-hour expansion of operations (current code allows for operating hours from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.). Begs the question: Should we allow gas stations and other 24-hour operations to locate in neighborhood areas zoned commercial?

A couple of weeks ago I asked: Should the city of North Port start cutting expenses now? ? No, we should wait until we need to (14%) No, but we need a plan is place to cut expenses if revenue falls (38%) Yes, area businesses have had to cut, the city should too (48%) Almost half of those responding thought the city should cut expenses now.
