All-America City Finalists
Congratulations, Hall of Fame Inductee, Dayton, OH
The 73rd annual awards event will be held virtually in conjunction with Grade-Level Reading Week, July 19-21, 2022. The event includes keynote speakers, workshops, panel discussions, virtual networking opportunities, and community presentations to a jury of national experts. For the first time ever, the event is open and free to everyone.
The 2022 AAC Finalists are being recognized for improving the prospects for early school success and equitable learning recovery, including for children whose families are served by the nation’s public housing agencies and affordable housing organizations. Finalist communities, representing 15 states, range in size from 4,500 residents to over 3.9 million.
Dayton, Ohio is the 2022 All-America City Hall of Fame Inductee. A four-time All-America City (1951, 1978, 1991, 2017), Dayton is being recognized for its resident engagement surrounding a 2020-2021 Police Reform Initiative. The award recognizes communities that have implemented a community-driven initiative resulting in local impact. Read more.

Congratulations to the two inaugural recipients of the All-America Leader Award, Jeremy Burnside of Portsmouth, OH & Former Mayor Roy Buol of Dubuque, IA. Both recipients exhibited civic leadership and have contributed to the improvement of their communities. The award supports the idea that anyone can be a difference maker in their community, whether it be an engaged resident, a business or faith leader, or an elected official.

The National Civic League is excited to announce Alma C. Stewart, RN, MS, CCHC as the 2022 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation-NCL Health Equity award winner. Through her work as a registered nurse, civil servant, entrepreneur, and public health advocate, Alma has dedicated her professional and personal life to improving experiences of health and well-being for the most vulnerable members of her community. Rochester NY is working toward a brighter future, with a new mayor and energetic community foundation leading efforts to combat crime, eradicate poverty and improve racial equity. League president Doug Linkhart was in this All-America City last month and heard Mayor Malik Evans speak to a group of civic leaders and journalists, saying that his focus on economic revitalization will combat both poverty and crime in the city.
