From Upcoming Events to our HSC Staff Pick of the Month,
Shelter Happenings  is for YOU!

When Diesel first arrived at HSC, he showed lack of socialization with people. Thanks to staff and volunteers, he has come a long way and is getting the socialization that he needs.

Diesel needs practice with walking "loose leash" but he is also trained to walk with a easy walk harness. Since his time here Diesel has learned the commands, "sit", "down", "shake", "stay", and "come". He also loves water and enjoys a nice dip in the doogie pool, even if its winter time. Diesel has made some canine friends at HSC, but he can be a rough-houser and not all dogs tolerate his play style. Diesel will benefit from being in a home with an experienced dog owner that can help him work on his socialization skills with other people and dogs.

For more information about Diesel or to setup time to meet with Diesel in person, please email Leticia Counts at

Community Cat Update: January

The Community Cat program at HSC is continuing to grow. HSC trapped 70 cats in January and 18 community members borrowed traps from HSC to trap their own colonies. A gentleman from Kannapolis managed to catch more than ten cats on his own!

Also during the month of January, a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control officer asked HSC to help an eldery caretaker trap & neuter a group of cats so that she would not become overwhelmed by the number of cats she cares for. HSC was able to trap the colony and held them an extra day to keep them warm in the snowy weather.

I f you're interested in volunteering or have questions about our Community Cat program, please contact Lea h Massey, our Community Cat Coordinator, at
