[Rod the Farmer has just told Jared he will keep him as his grain broker.]

Jared: That's, that's great. I'm very happy.

Farmer Rod: Are you listenin'?

Jared: Yes!

Farmer Rod: That's what I'm gonna do for you: God bless you, Jarry. But this is what you gonna do for me. You listenin', Jarry?

Jared: Yeah, what, what, what can I do for you, Rod? You just tell me what can I do for you?

Farmer Rod: It's a very personal, a very important thing. Heck, it's our family farm's motto. Are you ready, Jarry?

Jared: I'm ready.

Farmer Rod: I wanna make sure you're ready, brother. Here it is: Show me the money. Oh-ho-ho! SHOW! ME! THE! MONEY! A-ha-ha! Jarry, doesn't it make you feel good just to say that! Say it with me one time, Jarry.

Jared: Show you the money.

Farmer Rod: Oh, no, no. You can do better than that, Jarry! I want you to say it with meaning, brother! Hey, I got Ted with Agvanity Grain Brokers on the other line; I bet you he can say it!

Jared: Yeah, yeah, no, no, no. Show you the money.

Farmer Rod: No! Not show you! Show me the money!

Jared: Show me the money!

Farmer Rod: Yeah! Louder!

Jared: Show me the money!

Farmer Rod: Yes, but, brother, you got to yell it!

Jared: Show me the money!

Farmer Rod: I need to feel you, Jarry!

Jared: Show me the money!

Farmer Rod: Jarry, you got to yell!

Jared: [screaming] Show me the money! Show me the money!

Farmer Rod: Do you love this prairie farmer!

Jared: I love this prairie farmer! Show me the money!

Farmer Rod: I love prairie farmers.

Jared: I love prairie farmers!

Farmer Rod: Whatcha gonna do, Jarry?

Jared: Show me the money!

Farmer Rod: Unh! Congratulations, you're still my grain broker.

"He used to be with the circus before he came to the farm."

I talk a fair bit about how tough farming can be. I'm sympathetic that way. I can identify with the ups and downs, the adrenaline rushes, and - of course - the frenzied free-falls that come with being a farmer. But you know, there's more to rollercoaster rides than a bunch of frightened, excited riders. For instance, there's often a few carnies working behind these intense scenes. Operating rides, cleaning up puke... handing out luxurious prizes! You know... people like, well, people like - me...

Now, I'm not asking for your sympathy in return. In fact, I like what I do! Especially when it comes to handing out prizes. To me, one of the most rewarding things is helping someone target the right price, handing them the biggest sledgehammer we've got, and then watching them strike with just enough force to ring the bell of success. "Step right up!" I can often be heard shouting at work. "Test your strength! ... Who are the men out of the boys!?" And most recently, "Show me the MONEY!!"

Did I choose the carny life, you ask? Well, you might be surprised to hear this, but the carny life actually chose me. When I was a kid, I never dreamed that I'd be cleaning up metaphorical puke after a huge grain sell-off. Or that I'd get to strap people into grain pricing orders with enough G force to have them laughing involuntarily as I hang up the phone... It's not all fun and games though. My least favorite rides are the ones with a lot of airtime. You know that floating feeling of weightlessness you get in the pit of your stomach sometimes? -That's what I feel every time a farmer holds firm on their asking price when the market is coming off. -And I'm not supposed to be the one getting sick!

...Have another minute? I'd like to set the record straight when it comes to us marketing, circus folk. We may be a little scary, and maybe a little weird for what you're comfortable with. But we carnies care. And not only about the rides, but the riders too. Sure, we'll make you feel awkward at times, and we'll entice you to test your marketing prowess when you're busy with other things. -But it's how this grain selling circus works! And while some markets may be "rigged", ours most certainly aren't! We're open, we're honest, and we believe that we're all in it together. Through the shrieks, the queasiness and the euphoric fun of it all, we're here to help you test your chance, skill and strength. Now... when you're ready, we'll be waiting for you over at the corn toss.
...What's that? ...Oh, alright. One last time then... Show me the money!

Because Farming is Forever,

Jared Seitz

Market Report - Larry Green

Wheat
:  Feed wheat is still in demand March through June with prices remaining mostly unchanged and "good enough" for producers with feed wheat left to market. With gradable wheat prices being quite low, some producers have opted to sell their #2,#3 as feed to get quick movement and cash flow. On a more positive note, #1 and #2 13.5% + protein wheat has started to gain strength in May / June as buyers find sales to take grain into. If you've been waiting for prices to increase, now is the time to post offers for your gradable hard red spring.

Barley:  Feed barley demand has weakened for the near term, with most buyers being well-covered for the next month and a bit. This is causing cash prices to drop significantly for quick movement, and is keeping a lid on spring premiums. Barley supplies are going further than expected leaving many feedlots overbought. There is still demand for April with the greatest demand and highest prices found in May / June / July. This would be a good time to market a portion of your remaining barley, and if you are looking to be shown the money, spot prices may be stronger if supplies are low in those time frames.

Canola:  Canola has continued to gain strength and is looking very promising May through July. Those are currently the best months to lock in your canola with $10 or more at the bin depending on location. In spite of predictions by analysts that prices would soon drop, they seem to be steadily increasing; the weak Canadian dollar being one of the main reasons. Don't get caught waiting too long! Call and book your canola soon.

Oats: The hunt for 2CW milling oats continues as buyers bid on anything that meets their specifications for March-May. The gap between 2 CW and feed oats has widened slightly over the past few weeks. Buyers are still willing to look at all posted offers, so get your oats graded while demand exists. Samples can be sent to 3-5400 50 Street, Stony Plain, AB  T7Z 1B7.

Peas:  #2 Yellow peas are still showing strength in the markets with attractive cash prices for April / May. Demand and prices for Yellows has pushed Greens practically out of the markets with little movement available and few bids available from buyers. New crop pricing on Yellows is also very attractive as buyers position themselves to acquire inventory off combine, repeating this past year's pattern with a large percentage of the movement coming off combine. Set targets for New Crop and market your peas while demand and prices are high.

The Buyer Brief - Joseph Billett
Buyers have been consistently buying and are able to sit back and wait until they need it.  Most buyers have coverage until the last half March, beginning of April, which means that most opportunities are currently for April-May.  The market is trading at the bid right now, not the offer. Some buyers are still counterable by a couple bucks a tonne, but any more than that and they can buy it elsewhere.  Sellers, please remember to not get too attached to a specific price in this market. It's reasonable counters that are trading grain right now.
