Entrepreneurship in the Classroom

Our Entrepreneurship Coach, Blake Fleegle, has been making the rounds at local schools lately, giving presentations on Starting Your Own Business and helping students identify their Career Vision. 

He is pictured above at Greater Johnstown Career & Technology Center where he spoke to a group of seniors in the Automotive Collision Repair and Refinishing course. This presentation was in partnership with CareerLink of PA. He has also visited Ferndale, Johnstown and Rockwood schools.
Building Maintenance Training Opportunity

JARI is offering a 24 week Building Maintenance training program at no cost to eligible individuals residing in the Minersville, Moxham, Walnut Grove and Kernville Neighborhoods, City of Johnstown.

The program will be conducted by the Commonwealth Technical Institute at Hiram G. Andrews Center and will offer the option to earn industry based credentials that will enable participants to seek employment in public or private schools, apartment buildings, retail facilities, motels or public utilities. Classes are scheduled for March 2nd through August 14th. Classes will run Monday through Friday from 8:30 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Orientation will be held on February 24th at 8:30 A.M.  

Seating is limited. Individuals who meet the requirements will be enrolled in the course on a first come basis. If you are interested in learning more about the program and registering for the information session, please contact Debi Balog, Workforce Development Director via e-mail at dbalog@jari.com or by calling (814) 262-8366.  

The program is funded through PA Department of Community and Economic Development, Neighborhood Assistance Tax Credit Program.

$50,000 Ben Franklin BIG IDEA Contest

Partnering with the Startup Alleghenies initiative, Ben Franklin Technology Partners will award up to $50,000 to tech innovators or small manufacturers located in "The Alleghenies" who are developing new products, processes or software applications.

You Qualify to Apply If: 
  • You are located in Bedford, Blair, Fulton, Cambria, Huntingdon, or Somerset County
  • You have not previously received Ben Franklin funding
  • You plan to commercialize your innovation
  • You do not have more than $1,000,000 in sales revenue for your innovation
