Giving Tuesday
Giving Tuesday is a global day of generosity that will take place on November 30, 2021. On this day we have an opportunity to come together to thank, help, give, show kindness, and share what we have with those in need. In honor of Giving Tuesday, we would like to share the impact that Avondale House services have had on the Williams family. We hope you enjoy reading about BJ’s Avondale story:
"Amongst the many special schools to choose from in the Houston area, why Avondale? I have heard different reasons from different people. Even though I have many, my main reason is because they listen, they care, and they fulfill the needs of my son.
My son BJ was diagnosed with autism at the age of two. He is nonverbal and I had a hard time communicating with him. Before attending Avondale House, he was attending a public school. They were not very successful in teaching him. While in a school meeting, one of the staff suggested Avondale House.
Amazingly, within the first four weeks of attending, I saw a significant change. Not only did I see a shift in his behavior, but they had completely potty-trained him. I was so excited! That is when I knew without a doubt Avondale House was the best place for BJ.
Avondale has been a part of our lives for over twenty years. BJ was four years old when he first came to Avondale. From the time he arrived, BJ's needs have always been the main focus. Undoubtedly, I am pleased I chose Avondale House for BJ." - Bridgette Williams
