Just Announced via IRS email: IRS WILL BEGIN ACCEPTING ALL Modernized e-File (MeF) Business Returns AT 9 a.m. Eastern on January 8, 2019.

A lot of uncertainty is swirling around the start of filing season. As of this afternoon, IRS has not issued a new contingency plan for dealing with the partial government shutdown. 87.5 percent of its employees remain on furlough. No refunds are being issued, you can't fax a Form 2848, and you can't reach a live body by telephone. On the other hand, you can make automated payments.
