Si View Metro Parks: 20 years of Community Parks and Recreation services!

February marks the 20th anniversary of the park district. The journey from a newly formed small district to a thriving community service provider has been an exciting one, and none would be possible without the foresight of our community that created the park district in 2003 to ensure that there would be a local entity dedicated to improving the quality of life for all residents.

In 2002, the historic Si View Community Center and Pool faced closure by the county due to a budget shortfall. The facilities were battling a long list of deferred maintenance from leaky roofs to rotting gym floors. The community rallied to keep the doors open and bring local control to managing parks and recreation services by creating the district. Today, the picture is quite different! With a fully renovated community center filled with variety of program options for all ages, greatly expanded parks inventory and rapidly growing trail network, the park district is an essential part of our community. The district’s programs and parks bring our community together, improve health and wellness, and preserve green spaces, all contributing to an improved quality of life for residents. Thank you for your continued support, input and participation, we can’t wait to see what the next decade brings.

See you at local parks!

Aquatic Center Planning Update

Over the last few months, we have hosted two community listening sessions and completed an online survey to collect feedback on the aquatic center proposal. Thank you to everyone who has provided input! The purpose of these outreach efforts has been to understand what was missed in prior proposals. Both in 2020 and 2022 we fell just short of the required 60% super-majority for capital measures.

What we have learned is not so much that anything was missed but a need for clarified messaging. More details are needed of direct impacts to District taxpayers, and how a recreation pool can serve our community’s needs. Majority of respondents would like to see a similar proposal on a future ballot. We invite you to check out our website for a summary report of the survey and an updated list of commonly asked questions.

Our team is collecting additional information on costs for alternatives which will be shared at a community meeting on Wednesday April 19th, 6:30PM.

Park Project News

Construction is in progress for our community's newest park with trails for mountain biking and hiking! A groundbreaking ceremony celebrated this collaborative effort to enhance local park inventory by protecting 32-acres of greenspace from residential development and preserving it as open space for recreation. Tennant Trailhead Park will add much needed inventory for beginner friendly trails. Please note that this site is closed during construction, we'll let you know as soon as trails are ready for riding!

Over at Tollgate Farm Park, construction of the barn and parking areas are complete. We are still working to finish the farmhouse interior with installation of kitchen cabinetry and appliances later this year. Programs on site have already started, look for spring and summer season workshops in our next activity guide. You can also expect to find farming activity on the northwest fields this season, and livestock operation on the northeast fields.

The trails at the park are now fully open. The full 1-mile loop is a great option for morning or evening walks with a gravel pathway that is separated from road traffic. We also look forward to welcoming back cricket and soccer players out on the sports fields soon.
