New Plain Language COVID-19 Resources
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to leave us navigating a very uncertain moment in our world. We've heard from siblings about the unique challenges they experience as they support their brother or sister with an intellectual and/or developmental disability (IDD) during this pandemic.

To better support your sibling, The Arc has developed COVID-19 videos in plain language for people with disabilities. The videos explain the coronavirus pandemic and how it is affecting daily life.

Topics include:

  • What is COVID-19?
  • How is the coronavirus affecting people with disabilities?
  • Supports for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities during the coronavirus
  • Wearing masks to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus
  • What's next? Getting back to normal after COVID-19

To access these free resources, please visit The Arc’s website. We hope these resources help you and your sibling understand and learn about the pandemic. If you have any questions or feedback about these resources, please email Liz Mahar at [email protected]
NEWS FROM THE NATIONAL OFFICE
Announcing The Arc’s New Strategic Framework
Our new Strategic Framework for the Future of The Arc is here! This vision will guide our advocacy, programs, and more as we meet the challenges and opportunities of the future head on. Our framework represents two years of listening, planning, and thinking about the future we want to help build—plus thousands of thoughts and dreams from people just like you. You may have even taken our stakeholder survey—if you did, thank you!

On Wednesday, October 7 at 2:00 p.m. ET we will be hosting a Town Hall discussion specifically for self-advocates, family members, caregivers, and service providers to discuss The Arc's response to COVID-19 and our new Strategic Framework.

Are You Ready to Make Your Vote Count?
Elections can impact so many important issues for people with disabilities and their families. It is critical that we all participate and vote! The Arc has developed new resources to support people to vote, including a voting 101 guide, key disability issues factsheet, and sample questions to ask candidates. These resources can be found at thearc.org/vote. All are in plain language and are available as both designed and Microsoft Word document versions (in both English and Spanish).

Not sure if you are registered, want to find out about the candidates in your area, or need to check your polling location? Visit thearc.org/registertovote.
Tell Congress That People With Disabilities Can’t Be Left Behind!
We are STILL waiting for the Senate to take meaningful action on the next coronavirus relief bill. Tell your Senators that people with disabilities, their families, and the direct support professional workforce must be included in the next bill. We need:

  • Dedicated funding for Medicaid home and community-based services (HCBS)
  • Personal protective equipment for direct support professionals
  • Paid leave for all caregivers, including siblings
  • Economic impact payments for all people with disabilities

Call, email, or tweet your Senators today!
