Click HERE to read the memo that was circulated to all NLSchools employees on September 17, 2025.
The memo states, in part:
Medical certificates are required in the following instances: ○ An employee has used eight or more consecutive working days of leave for sick purposes; or ○ An employee has used leave for sick purposes that totals ten or more sick leave days in a school year.
Please be advised that any day or days for which a medical certificate has already been provided is not considered in the aggregate total for the purposes of the second bullet.
So, for example:
- Teacher A is absent for 9 consecutive working days due to a surgery. A note is provided (as per the first bullet requirement). These 9 days do not “count” for the purposes of the second bullet, i.e., do not count as part of the ten or more days.
- Teacher B is absent for 2 days in October and 2 days in November. A note is provided for the days in October. Only the November days “count” for the purposes of the second bullet, i.e., those two November days count as part of the ten or more days, but the October days do not.
If you have any questions, please contact a Programs and Services Administrative Officer through email at mail@nlta.ca.
