Sidekicks Manual &
Training PowerPoint Updates!
With the release of the new Maine Integrated Youth Health Survey data , we have updated the Sidekicks Manual and accompanying training PPTs to reflect new MIYHS data. While there have been no other substantive changes to the curriculum, we wanted to ensure you knew that the manual and PPTs had been updated and the new versions are now available for download on the Sidekicks website within the advisor portal. Please familiarize yourself with the updates, utilize the newest versions (February 2020) and email TPS if you have any questions!

New data and resources are reflected in:
  • The Sidekicks manual, the 'Tobacco & Vaping Facts Hot Potato' Activity, the Sidekicks Training PowerPoint as well as the 'Welcome & Overview' and 'National Resources' PowerPoints 
New Statewide Vaping Support Services
E-cigarette use, commonly referred to as vaping, by Maine youth has significantly increased over the past few years, with 29% of high school students reporting they currently use these products.
 
The MaineHealth Center for Tobacco Independence (CTI) is excited to provide new vaping treatment services, now available for all Mainers needing support with quitting vaping or in working with a loved one to quit.

Youth Texting Program:

MaineHealth Center for Tobacco Independence has partnered with the Truth Initiative to launch a the Maine This is Quitting youth texting program.
 
This is Quitting is a free, confidential texting program with evidence-based tips to help 13-24 year-olds quit vaping.

Vaping Support Line:

Through the Maine Tobacco HelpLine any adult or youth resident can receive services to assist:
  • Those who vape and want to quit,
  • Those needing assistance in how to support a loved one who vapes,
  • Anyone with a general question about vaping.
 
Trained coaches will work with callers to:
  • Enroll in quitting support services,
  • Provide tips for speaking to youth around vaping,
  • Provide local vaping resource information.
