News from our Assistant Rector
May 9, 2019

Dear Friends,

I am writing with some exciting news about my family. My husband, John Sides, has accepted a faculty position as Professor of Political Science at Vanderbilt University. The Vanderbilt political science department is very strong and the university has an outstanding student body. This is a great opportunity for him and the whole family and has only recently developed. I do not yet have a clergy position in Nashville, but I have started networking and am hopeful that something will come together once I am on the ground.

My last Sunday at Christ Church will be July 21, which means we have plenty of time to say goodbye and for me to overlap with an interim rector. I will also spend time laying the ground work for next year’s children’s programming and small groups. (Anne Curry writes more on the transition below.)

Thank you for all your love and support for me as your seminarian and your assistant rector over the last 4 years. Christ Church is a wonderful parish and has taught me well. I will miss you!

Faithfully yours,
Serena

Dear Christ Church Family,

We are very grateful that Serena joined our parish staff and expanded and strengthened our children and family programming, developed our small group ministry, and helped initiate our Invite-Welcome-Connect ministry. We have grown to know and admire her through her preaching, celebrating, pastoral care, and leadership. We will miss her greatly.

While we recognize this is an exciting time for Serena, John, Ethan and Hannah, it brings further change to our Christ Church community. We must remember that God is with us and is working to help us determine our future at Christ Church. Attendance has been strong and our spirit and love for this special place has not diminished.

The Executive Committee/Vestry are working hard on your behalf and are very close to hiring an Interim Rector who will guide us through the next phase of our transition. The Search Committee will be announced this week and will soon begin its work to identify and present candidates for the next Rector of Christ Church.

I have been recalling the line from Ecclesiastes 3:1, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” We need to trust in God’s blessing and plan during this period of change and renewal for our Parish.

As always, if there are any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

May God's peace be with you,

Anne Curry
