Alderman Reilly Reports

Sidewalk Infrastructure Improvement:

29 West Chestnut

Recently, Alderman Reilly assisted in replacing the damaged sidewalk near 29 West Chestnut. The repair was part of Chicago’s Shared Cost Sidewalk Program, which allows private buildings to share the costs of sidewalk repair with the City to help both parties improve local infrastructure. The program costs property owners less than what a private contractor would charge, and the work is overseen by the Department of Transportation (CDOT).

Thanks to this program, Alderman Reilly and the management team at 29 West Chestnut were able to replace a sidewalk that had been damaged by an invasive tree root, posing a trip-and-fall hazard to residents. Photos of the sidewalk before and after the repair are below!

An overview with guidelines and instructions on how to participate in the Shared Cost Sidewalk Program can be found here. See below for a before and after of the refurbished sidewalk!

Proposed Development: 310 West Huron

310 West Huron is currently an undeveloped site used as a surface parking lot at the corner of Huron Street and Orleans Street. ZSD Corp is proposing to build a 9-story mixed-use building with 149 dwelling units, 21 parking spaces and 149 bicycle spaces. Click here for more information.

The development complies with the existing DX-5 Zoning. However, ZSD Corp has applied to the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) for a special use approval to allow a residential use below the 2nd floor; a variation to decrease the off-street parking requirement from 65 spaces to 21 spaces; and a variation to reduce the rear setback for floors containing dwelling units. The property is located adjacent to CTA rail and is a transit-served location eligible for reduced parking.

Due to an administrative error, this project will be heard at the September ZBA public hearing, not this month. Residents/stakeholders within the required mailing radius may have received a notice listing the August 19th date. Please click here to provide your feedback on this project.
