For the sake of His sorrowful passion,
have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Dear SCS Parents,

As we enter into this Easter Triduum and prepare for the final part of our Lenten journey together, we are wishing you all the most wonderful Easter.

We will return to school on Monday, April 8th and will enjoy the solar eclipse. Please make sure to read the email I sent out last night about April 8th and what we will be doing to experience the solar eclipse at SCS.

Stay safe and we will see you after the break! Have a wonderful Easter and Spring Break. You will all be in my prayers.

God Bless,

Kelly Wood

Principal

The 2nd grade students took part in a beautiful Seder meal. The meal remembers the Israelites in flight when they were freed from the Egyptians and left in haste for the Promise Land. The meal includes wine (or juice for 2nd grade), unleavened bread, and bitter herbs, each of which connect with the experience of the Israelites.

All high school students and current 8th grade students are invited to register for our Spring Retreat, which will be held April 19-21st at the KSU Catholic Center. This retreat focuses on the Lord’s Prayer and will unpack the Our Father… but with a twist: it's In Reverse. This weekend retreat will help the teens look at the Our Father in a new way, and apply the prayer to their everyday lives. The cost is $75 per teen. Our Summer Conference, Steubenville ATL, is also open for registration. Held at the Infinite Energy Center in Duluth from July 26-28th, Steubenville ATL is open to all high school and current 8th grade students. A $75 deposit is required to hold your spot, and the total cost of the conference will be $370 (including hotel stay and food). Please visit our youth website for more details and pricing information for both events.

7th grade continued their dissection unit with frogs this week.

Our Simply Catholic Sisterhood group enjoyed a wonderful Lenten pilgrimage to The Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Alabama.

We are so proud of our 8th graders on their Confirmation.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created,

and you shall renew the face of the earth. Let us pray. O God, who have taught the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit,

grant that in the same Spirit we may be truly wise and ever rejoice in his consolation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Sampierre and Achein Jatta are this week's SCS Outstanding Citizens. Both boys volunteered to help set up chairs and assist our facilities team after school. Our team was so thankful for their assistance and it saved everyone time. Way to go boys!

The Parent Portal is open, and you can see classes. You can access it for the directory, Fun Lunch ordering, and announcements. To help guide you through the Parent Portal, we have created a short tutorial video so that you can navigate this platform with ease as you check grades, order lunches, update information, and more.

The 7th graders worked so hard and performed the Passion Play for the entire school and parents. Thank you to Sister Delia Grace and Ms. Payne for their hard work and dedication! It was the perfect way to get us ready for the Triduum.

We were so blessed to have the the arm of Saint Jude Thaddeus, venerated in Rome from ancient times, visit St. Catherine's.

One of the Church’s most beloved saints, Saint Jude is the one to whom people turn when they are desperate and have tried everything else. When things seem lost or unbearable—when they seem hopeless—Saint Jude is the one to whom people often turn. All students and families were able to visit the relic during the day, and our own Jude was excited that the event took place on his birthday- that might be the very best birthday gift.

The first graders showed off their own version of Calvary. We discussed Christ’s crucifixion on Calvary and the sacrifice He made for the world which is symbolized by His cross’ central placement between the thieves, Dimas and Gestas who only received forgiveness because Jesus gave his life for their and the world’s salvation. Afterward, the young artists used oil pastels and shadow casting to represent this sacred moment.

Third graders learned about the art of Mosaics and tesserae while looking at the Art of some Famous Catholic Churches throughout the world. Then created their very own Lenten mosaics using either a Cross or Dove as the central theme focusing on warm and cool colors or a combination of the two. What a fun way to focus on Lent!

5th graders completed a project based on Artist of the month, Symbolist Artist Gustav Klimt. They used gold paint to create a beautiful free form Moon and spent hours meticulously using patterning and symbolism to add visual interest to their stylized cat! After the cat was done, it was added to their moon background and they added fine stylized background details of gold and silver to make it shine! It was a labor of love that sure paid off!

Notes From the Nurse

God bless you and stay healthy!

SCS School Nurses

SCS Illness protocols: Children must be 24 hours fever free without the use of fever reducing medications and illness symptoms greatly improved before returning to school. If a child has vomited, 24hrs must pass without them vomiting, as well as they are eating and drinking normally, before returning to school. As always, feel free to reach out to the nurse at [email protected] with concerns.

Our hearts are full, and our appreciation is great for all of the families and staff who came out on Saturday, March 23rd to participate in our Annual Super Hero Shuffle. What an amazing morning of laughter, fun, running, walking, snacking, jumping and community for our Preschool. The Super Heroes were everywhere we turned – the costumes were fantastic. If you came and joined us, thank you. If you gave a donation, thank you. If you sponsored our event, thank you. If you purchased one raffle ticket or 100 raffle tickets, thank you. If you prayed for us, thank you. Because of your support, we will be able to provide many families with tuition assistance in the coming school year and continue our Mission. You are all our HEROES. Be sure to check out our Facebook page @stcatherinespreschool for pictures of our amazing event!

The Lenten Season is drawing to a close and the preschool honored its beauty and sacrifice in many ways. Resurrection eggs, which offer a preschool age explanation of the Stations of the Cross, were used daily. Our Early 5’s created beautiful, tactile Stations of the Cross.  The children can empathize with Christ and his suffering for each of us. We also create Crowns of Thorns for our classrooms and offer them the opportunity to add their own acts of sacrifice to our large cross in the Preschool hallway. Their purple giving crosses are a visual way to recognize each act of kindness, large or small.

There are a few spots available for the 2024-2025 school year! Please contact us at [email protected] or 770-590-0480. We would love to answer any questions and tour you through our amazing preschool.
