Welcome back! It has been so fun to see the students back at school! The first week of a new school year is a great time to remind ourselves of several things to stay as healthy as possible:
Handwashing- Frequent hand washing has been shown to be the single most effective thing to control disease spread. Please remind your child to wash hands after using the restroom, after blowing their nose, and before eating or even touching their face.
Other Illness prevention techniques- Please remind your child to try to keep their hands away from their faces as much as possible during the school day. If they need to rub their eyes or touch their face, the best practice is to wash their hands before touching.
Medications- Any medication that comes into the clinic for the nurse to give MUST be accompanied by a medication authorization form signed by both the parent and the child's doctor. We are unable to administer any medication without this form as this is a strict Archdiocesan policy. This policy is for the safety of the students and the school. The policy is listed in the Parent and Student Handbook.
Illness- In the event of an illness with a fever or vomiting, the student must stay home until symptoms are mild or gone and temperature is below 100 degrees Fahrenheit for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication. If vomiting is due to illness, the student must stay home until there is no vomiting for 24 hours without the use of medication. A student with diarrhea must stay home until they have been without diarrhea for 24 hours.
COVID -The protocols for testing positive for COVID have not changed. With a positive test, the student stays home (isolated) for 5 days and then can return to school, the person should then wear a mask for an additional 5 days. (Weekend days count as part of the 5 days.)
Thank you so much for your patience and cooperation. Feel free to reach out with questions at [email protected].
