The Sierra Club announced today that it has endorsed Dwight Worden's candidacy for Del Mar City Council, in appreciation of Dwight's "demonstrated commitment to protecting our environment."
As a lifetime environmental lawyer and Sierra Club member, Dwight has advocated for the environment since the 1970s. On the Council, he has championed Del Mar's Climate Action Plan, Sustainability Advisory Committee, zero waste program, water recycling, Sea Level Rise Adaptation Plan, plastics reduction, lagoon and wetlands preservation, including “blue carbon,” building electrification, and SANDAG’s Regional Transportation Plan that will address climate change and reduce congestion. "Climate change is, in my view, the existential challenge of our times," Dwight said, in reflecting on the importance of Sierra Club support for his candidacy.
The endorsement letter stated these priorities and values: "The Sierra Club is committed to promoting clean energy solutions to move California beyond dirty fossil fuels like coal, oil and dangerous nuclear power, and towards a safe, clean energy future built on energy efficiency, clean energy, and American innovation. Since our founding in 1948, the Sierra Club San Diego Chapter has protected San Diego’s wild places and wildlife. In addition, the Club works to protect public health and ensure safe and healthy communities that are free of toxic air and water pollution. The San Diego Sierra Club and its over 30,000 members and supporters work to support candidates who share these values."
